Abhijeet’s in trouble
A non-cognisable case has been filed against singer Abhijeet at the Oshiwara police station in Mumbai, after he allegedly called a lawyer ‘a member of the Taliban’.
Abhijeet had a spat with committee members of a housing society in Versova in Lokhandwala, who complained that he rented out flats to outsiders without sanction. Post-meeting, the committee members went to the police to complain that the singer called advocate Rizwan Siddiquee, who is a resident, ‘a Taliban member’.
“Abhijeet has been renting out flats without the society’s permission. As per rules, prior permission has to be taken and police verification of tenants done. But this was not followed. The committee brought it to his notice, but he did not respond,” said society secretary Sushil Mehra. Abhijeet’s four flats in Versova Breeze housed 13 child contestants of a TV programme and their parents.
As Abhijeet did not respond, the society told occupants in his flats that won’t be allowed entry to the premises. They phoned Abhijeet who came to meet the committee members. Abhijeet, however, countered this by saying that Siddiquee behaves like a dictator and does not even let children play in the compound. “He threatens everybody that he will take them to court. He may be an advocate, but he can’t behave like a dictator. I don’t even know his name and I’ve not insulted his religion.’’
Abhijeet said he allowed the child participants to stay in his flats as many of them could not afford hotels. “They are my guests and I’m not charging them to stay,” he said.
