John Abraham calls himself 'item producer'
Bollywood hunk John Abraham who starred in both commerical and off beat films including "Dhoom", "Water", "Garam Masala", "Kabul Express" and "7 Khoon Maaf" has turned producer and is set to make cutting edge entertainers with international appeal under his banner J.A. Entertainment Pvt Ltd. Director Shoojit Sircar's 'Vicky Donor' a film about sperm donation will be his first project. "Vicky Donor" will give the issue of sperm donation a lot of credibility.
John Abraham has done a promotional video titled "Rum Whisky" for his first production venture "Vicky Donor", and describes himself as an "item producer".
"I did the song for fun. In this song I am not only the item boy, but I am the producer also. It's important to understand that I am the driver of this film in a way, but I am also the producer of the film. I am the item producer," the 39-year-old said here at launch of the music of the film.
Releasing April 20, "Vicky Donor" stars veejay-turned-actor Ayushman Khuran and TV actress Yami Gautam in the lead roles. John says he chose to stay out of the cast of the film about sperm donors because he wanted to test himself as a producer.
"I am taking this role very seriously because you must have seen that actors usually star in their own films and then they produce it. It is my first film and I am not starring in it. I have cast newcomers because I wanted to see how effective I am as a producer," said John.
