Injury lefts James Hopes out of IPL 5
Australian all-rounder, James Hopes, cannot take part in the fifth edition of IPL because of his knee injury. His injury has come as a big blow for his new IPL franchise, Pune Warriors.
After Pune Warriors bought James Hopes from Delhi Daredevils last month, he became the only overseas player to have been signed this season apart from West Indies’ Marlon Samuels.
Because of the injury of Hopes Warriors will have to fill up two foreign players’ slots after IPL governing council allowed the franchise an extra foreign player to fill up the gape of injured Yuvraj Singh this season.
James Hopes guided Queensland to a title win in the Sheffield Shield with his all-round performance. With the bat he scored a half-century in the first innings and claimed five wickets in the second.
It is reported that Pune Warriors was in talks with the Australian captain Michael Clarke, who was reportedly coming as a possible replacement for Yuvraj Singh.

Mumbai Indians rout Chennai by 8 wicketsRiding high on RE Levi's quick fifty off 35 balls, Mumbai Indians routed the defending champions Chennai Super Kings in the high voltage opening game of the IPL 5 on Wednesday at MA Chidambaram Stadium here. Mumbai acheived the target with 19 balls remaining and eight wickets in hand.
While chasing the target of 113 runs, Mumbai Indians' opening pair Levi and Tendulkar gave a flying start to the team. Tendulkar continued to hold the fort even after Levi's departure who scored a quick fifty off 35 balls. He declared the Man of the Match. Tendulkar was retired hurt due to finger injury at the score of 16 runs.
After being invited to bat first, Chennai's star-studded line-up appeared totally ineffective in front of Mumbai's bowling attack. Defending champions suffered an early jolt in the first over in the form of F du Plessis, who was run out while trying to steal a single in the first over. Skipper Mahendra Singh Dhoni also failed to fire and was out at a score of four runs. Most expensive player in this season, Ravindra Jadeja also left CSK fans disappointed and was out at mere three runs. CSK's three batsmen were run out, Dhoni being one of them. Suresh Raina was the leading runs scorer for the Chennai side with 36 runs off 26 deliveries.
With his five wicket haul, Bhajji has guided MI to an eight-run win.

SRK skips IPL 5 inauguration, courtesy Salman?
Actor Shah Rukh Khan, the co-owner of Kolkata Knight Riders team in the Indian Premiere League, is said to to have missed the inaugural event at Chennai on Tuesday evening due to Salman Khan.
If sources are to be believed, Salman Khan's presence at the inaugural event is reportedly one of the key reasons for SRK's absence.
As per insiders, Salman- who had been roped in for a special performance on his track 'Dhinka Chikha' also interacted with the IPL cricket team owners backstage.
And guess, SRK who co- owns KKR knew that coming face to face with Salman would turn things awkward for both the parties, hence he missed out on the appearance.
Earlier a source had indicated the same to Dailybhaskar..com, the source said "To avoid unnecessary tensions, SRK perhaps may remain absent," says another source.
Reportedly, Salman and his crew had also quizzed the organisers about SRK's presence at the event.
A source close to SRK talked to Dailybhaskar.com earlier and said, "I don't think Shah Rukh will attend the inaugural event today, but his co owners Juhi Chawla and her hubby Jay Mehta will be present, as SRK generally gives it a miss, but of course, the actor will attend the KKR team matches at the home ground- the Edens garden in Kolkata."...being a human...

Rain delays Sehwag-Gambhir face-offToday's match between Kolkata Knight Riders and the Delhi Daredevils has been delayed due to rains at the Eden Gardens.
KKR will make every possible attempts to ensure a flying start in the tournament with a winning note. Hosts would make no mistake like previous season where they missed the opportunity after an improved performance.
On the other hand, Daredevils will use every weapon in their arsenal to make fresh start in present season after shoddy performance in the earlier seasons.
Interestingly, Virender Sehwag and Gambhir both belong to Delhi and have been opening the Indian side in the international competitions.
Apart from Sehwag-Gambhir, it will be good to watch Pathan brothers, who will be playing against each other with Yusuf playing for Kolkata and Irfan for Delhi Daredevils.
KKR is expected to have an upper hand as far as the batting department is concerned. Delhi has to play first few game wihout its few key players like Mahela Jayawardene, Kevin Pietersen and David Warner who will be away from the squad due to commitments towards their national teams.
Whereas, KKR has to play only without James Pattinson. In the latest development seen as a major addition to the KKR's arsenal, West Indies off-spinner Sunil Narine will be available for the Knight Riders throughout the season. To add to it, the return of McCullum, who smashed a 73-ball 158 for the Knight Riders in the very first IPL match of season one four years back, is certain to bring smiles back on the faces of the fans of the Kolkata side. He is expected to open KKR's inning along with Kallis.
Known for his merciless hittings, Yusuf Pathan alongwith Laxmi Ratan Shukla, Rajat Bhatia, Dutchman Ryan ten Doeschate and Shakib will contitute the middle order....being a human...

Delhi off to a flying start, beat KKR by 8 wicketsDelhi Daredevils set off to a flying start in the present edition of the Indian Premiere League by beating Kolkata Knight Riders by eight wickets in their first match of the tournament at Eden Gardens on Thursday night. While chasing the target of 98 runs, Delhi skipper Virender Sehwag along with AJ Finch gave a steady start to the team. Daredevils had already crossed half benchmark when Finch departed at the score of 30 off 27 deliveries.
Sehwag also followed Finch to the pavilion very soon. He was caught out at a score of 20 runs. But before moving back to pavilion the opening duo had set the momentum towards their victory. Remaining job was magnificently accomplished by the left handed all-rounder Irfan Pathan. Pathan hit 42 runs without giving much space to the Kolkata bowlers. He was given Man of the Match.
Invited to bat first, Knight Riders lost four wickets within first four overs. McCullum was first to depart, who fall prey to Van der Merwe at the score of 9 runs. He was soon followed by Kallis, Tiwary and Pathan. Pathan was sent back to pavilion without scoring any run by Yadav.
KKR skipper Gautam Gambhir who hit some good shots was bowled out after adding 16 runs to the score board. LR Shukla was the top scorer for the KKR with 26 runs off 17 balls. For Delhi Daredevils, M Morkel took three wickets.

Rahane's 98 powers Rajasthan Royals to easy win over Kings XI PunjabRajasthan Royals captain Rahul Dravid on Friday lauded young Ajinkya Rahane for his brilliant 98-run knock that set the platform for his side's comfortable win over Kings XI Punjab in their opening match of the Indian Premier League season five. Rahane who fell short of a well deserved century by just two runs, attacked from the word go as he picked up boundaries at regular intervals.
Punjab skipper Gilchrist won the toss and decided to field first, a decision which was later regretted by him. The opening pair of Dravid and Rahane never looked in a hurry and they scored boundaries of almost every over. Rahane (98) looked in great touch as he scored 4 boundaries in the third over bowled by Pravin Kumar. Dravid (28) was out in the tenth over but by then he had shared a 77-run-stand for the opening wicket. Towards the end, Brad Hodge (21) and Owais Shah (14) made sure that they reached a huge total in front of the home crowd.
Pravin Kumar was the most expensive bowler as he went for 42 runs in his quota of 10 over. James Faulkner too went for 41 runs but he picked up two crucial wickets.
Chasing the huge total, Kings XI Punjab never looked settled as Gilchrist and Valthaty failed to provide the kind of start that was required to meet the mammoth task ahead. Gilchrist fell in the 5th over bowled by Amit Singh, caught by Cooper at mid-off. Shaun Marsh (7) could not overcome his rough patch with the bat as his team-mate David Hussey too failed with the bat. Mandeep Singh was the highest scorer with the bat, but following the top order collapse, it was a tough from the middle order to chase down the huge total. Kings XI Punjab managed to score 160 runs and lost their opening match by 30 runs.
Ajinkya Rahane was adjudged the Man of the Match for his stupendous knock. Cooper who made his IPL debut picked up four wickets and became the second bowler after Shoaib Akhtar to have done so on IPL debut. He also took two catches and produced a run-out.
Gilchrist admitted that Kings XI Punjab were outplayed. "We were outplayed. I got the toss wrong and then, Rahane played a beautiful innings. I think we conceded 20-30 runs more. There were some positives, not saying it as a cliche, but even Rahul agrees that we had some positives coming out for us," said the Australian....being a human...
