Saif's 'Pungi Baja Kar' pushes him to legal trap
Of course, legal troubles and plagiarism allegations are nothing new to Bollywood films. One of the most anticipated films of 2012, Agent Vinod, directed by Sriram Raghavan, starring Bollywood's to be couple Saif and Kareena has recently run into hot waters over the highly popular song from Agent Vinod, Pungi Baja Kar.
An Iranian music band has sent a legal notice to the music director Pritam Chakraborty and the distributors of the film for allegedly copying their track Soosan Khanoom.
The song Soosan Khanoom is by the Iranian band Barobax Corp which was founded in 2003 by three Iranian nationals Kashayar Haghgoo, Kevian Haghgoo and Hamid Farouzmand. The band heard the Pungi song when it was aired on their national television and they allegedly realized that the initial portion of the song sounds exactly like their track Soosan Khanoom.
As soon as the band members learnt about the copyright infringement they sent their representative Nargis Kazerooni to India to initiate legal action. The notice also demands the music director, producers and directors to refrain from releasing the song in the movie or use it to promote the movie. The notice further claims, “Failing to do so, the band shall be compelled to initiate proceedings to seek a restraining order and necessary compensation.”
But, Agent Vinod's producer Dinesh Vijan claimed that there is no similarity between the two tracks.
Talking to a leading daily, he also said that Pritam`s melody is original. Saif Ali Khan's last home production Love Aaj Kal, too had had great music. Even this time, we are quite sure that Agent Vinod will come up with some new and groovy tracks.
