Tri-Series: Australia trample India to enter finals
India lost the 10th ODI of the Commonwealth Bank series against Australia by 87 runs. Ravichandran Ashwin remained the top scorer for India with 26. India's chances of making it to the finals now look minimal.
India lost today for the same reason they lost their last 8 Test matches - top order failure.
Facing a do-or-die situation, India was in deep trouble in the crucial tenth One-Day International (ODI) against India at SCG as top batsmen failed to stay on crease for long.
Indian batsmen were a major disappointment as they failed to perform miserably against the Australia as India lost five early wickets in just 20 overs.
The target 253 was surely not beyond reach, but India's top order showed utter lack of discipline. Virender Sehwag failed again, Sachin Tendulkar fell to a controversial run out, Virat Kohli and Gautam Gambhir showed promise but didn't carry on, Suresh Raina and RA Jadeja perished to loose shots outside off and MS Dhoni struggled and looked to stay in the crease but failed to do so.
Ashwin and Irfan Pathan once again showed that they should be batting higher than Jadeja, but the target was way beyond reach for them. India are not yet out of the competition, but it would be fair to say that they don't deserve to get there.
Gambhir departed for 23 runs after being bowled by McKay.
Kohli contributed for 21 runs before he was caught by Daniel Christian.
Sehwag's batting woes continued as Ben Hilfenhaus took a return catch to end his inning's early.
It was a big disappointment for Indian fans after Tendulkar (14) was run-out by Warner....being a human...
