Hotel brawl: Saif Ali Khan arrested, gets bail shortly
Actor Saif Ali Khan has been finally granted bail after being arrested for bashing up Iqbal Sharma, a South African trade official on Tuesday night.
Saif reached the Colaba Police station, after he was summoned to appear in the assault case filed against him by Sharma.
Earlier, the actor was not found at his residence when the Police team arrived to summon him, but he was later found to be at his lawyer's office in Nariman Point.
The actor was reportedly brought in through the back entrance of the Police station, in order to avoid media attention.
Sources suggest that Saif, along with his lawyers will give the police station incharge the required statements and his arrest is under section 325 of IPC, which is a bailable offence and hence, the actor was released immediately after submission of the bond papers, without having to appear in the court.
The incident in question took place last night at Wasabi restaurant at Taj Hotel, where he, along with Kareena and a few friends were having dinner. Iqbal Sharma, resident of Juhu, was also having dinner with his family at an adjoining table. Apparently, Iqbal complained about the noise that was coming from the Saif’s table and a scuffle started between them as Saif, reportedly, told him to go to a library to find peace.
Also, Iqbal Sharma, who is the Deputy DG Business and investment for South African Government, had confirmed the brawl earlier today, with his statement that said, "Saif abused and assaulted me and father-in-law."
Police sources said, Kareena's name is also mentioned in the First Information Report filed against Saif Ali Khan and two unknown persons at the Colaba Police Station under section 325 IPC.
A few sections of the media had earlier reported that the scuffle actually took place between Amrita Arora Ladak’s husband Shakeel Ladak. It was only when Saif intervened that he got into the brawl with Iqbal.
Post the scuffle, Iqbal lodged the complaint that Saif and two of his associates assaulted him with fist blows, causing fracture to his nose bone. Malaika Arora Khan and Amrita Arora Ladak were also reportedly present at the site....being a human...

Saif-Iqbal scuffle: I was hit and I defended myself, says Saif
Actor Saif Ali Khan was finally granted bail after being arrested for bashing up Iqbal Sharma, a South African trade official on Tuesday night. Seemingly miffed with the rumour mills working overtime about what exactly happened at Wasabi on Tuesday night, the actor issued an official statement. Here's what he has to say:
"There was an ugly incident last night where my friends and the ladies with us were abused and I was assaulted.
I was hit and I defended myself. I have been to the police station to answer the requirements of law as I am a law abiding citizen. I have also filed a complaint about what happened last night and I am confident justice will be done.
I have seen the interviews given on TV and they look like decent people and I cannot believe that the same people were so aggressive the night before and the lies that they are saying about me with such straight faces.
I think they have the cc tv footage in the restaurant that will prove everything.
I hope the media is able to remain impartial while the matter is being decided. I don’t think any gentleman would have behaved differently”...being a human...

Saif-Iqbal scuffle exclusive: Did Iqbal misbehave with Kareena?
Actor Saif Ali Khan losing his cool after media reports of his scuffle with South African trade official came in, has raised a lot of eyebrows.
Sources suggest that the complainant Iqbal Meer Sharma too was at a fault because of which a petty argument took a grave turn. Sharma allegedly misbehaved with Saif's female folks (especially Kareena) and called them "a bunch of hooligans."
Saif has been accused to have assaulted Iqbal Meer Sharma, who's an NRI and his father-in-law (senior citizen) last night at a brawl inside a nightclub at Taj hotel in Colaba, but an insider present at the restaurant has a different version to recollect, "It was not Saif's fault alone, as Iqbal came on their table and started arguing and misbehaving with the ladies (Kareena, Karisma and Amrita Arora Ladhak), which miffed Saif, who asked him to go back to his table, but Iqbal too was in high spirits and stared at the actor quite constantly."
As per an insider, Saif lost his temper, "Finally, Saif reacted and in retaliation, he punched Iqbal on his face, which broke his nasal bone," suggests the insider.
Meanwhile, Iqbal denied misbehaving with the ladies, "It is false, they are now trying to play safe. I don't even know who is Kareena. One of Saif's friends, Shakeel Ladakh, the husband of Amrita Arora suddenly approached us after the tussle and punched my 70 year old father-in-law, who collapsed. This is not at all acceptable, so I approached the cops at the police station," exclaimed Iqbal....being a human...

I didn't know who Saif Ali Khan is: Iqbal SharmaIqbal Sharma and his father-in-law spoke to the press about Saif and his friends assaulting them. Sharma has already filled charges on the actor and based on that Saif Ali Khan has been arrested and brought to Colaba Police Station.
Narrating the incident, Iqbal Sharma said that he and his father-in-law were having dinner at Taj where Saif, Kareena and their friends were also present. According to Iqbal – Saif and his friends were rather loud and therefore they complained to the management about them. Iqbal apparently told Saif that he and his friends were too loud and Saif told him that it was not his library and pushed him. The management had apparently spoken to Saif and his friends thrice after the complaint made by Iqbal.
According to Iqbal’s statement, following this altercation, Saif and his friends started beating him and his father-in-law up. According to Iqbal’s father-in-law – Saif and his friends were being rowdy and the way they behaved shows that none of them were sober. Also, after the incident – one of Saif’s friends punched Iqbal’s father-in-law and ran away.
Iqbal Sharma, Deputy DG, Trade and Investment, South Africa, told the press that it was too late to apologise and the time to do so was over. Saif could have apologised to him and his father-in-law yesterday but nothing happened on that front. Iqbal said that he is shocked that someone of such a high profile could act this way and he said that the hotels needed more security.
Iqbal Sharma added that he discovered who Saif Ali Khan was only after the incident, since he stays in South Africa he said that he did not know Saif or Kareena....being a human...

Saif Ali Khan arrested in hotel assault caseBollywood actor Saif Ali Khan was arrested on charges of assaulting a South African businessman and his father-in-law in a restaurant the night before, media reports said. He is likely to get bail too since it is a technical arrest. His statement is being recorded in the case while one TV report said he surrendered to police at his lawyer's chamber.
Saif landed himself in a royal mess after serious allegations of assault on a South African businessman and his father-in-law in a chic restaurant in Mumbai on Tuesday night were lodged against him. Saif reached Wednesday night to the Colaba police station after the summons, reports said.
Iqbal Sharma, who is a South African businessman, said he was assaulted and got a broken nose while his 68-year-old father-in-law was not spared as well as the actor rained blows on them and hurled abuses.
The case was registered against Khan in the Colaba police station under section 325 and 34 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) for allegedly punching Iqbal Sharma and his father-in-law at Wasabi restaurant in Mumbai's Taj Hotel on Tuesday night. The Mumbai Police quizzed Saif and is likely to even record his girlfriend Kareena Kapoor's statement on the issue. Kareena was also present at the scene of the brawl, unconfirmed reports said, since the assaulted businessman (apparently not too aware about Bollywood actors) said he could not recognize the ladies and could identify only if they were produced before him.
Khan, along with Kareena and few other friends, were reportedly dining at the restaurant when he had a brawl with Iqbal Sharma. Sharma was sitting at the adjoining table where Khan was dining. Sharma reportedly went to Khan and asked him to lower his voice as the noise from his table was disturbing him. He said when Saif did not stop they were moving to a different place and as they crossed each other at a passage Saif hurled abuses and started beating him up. 'Saif had gone out and was coming back when we crossed each other at the passage and he started beating and abusing then,' said Sharma and his father-in-law. Saif allegedly told the family that they 'do not know who he is.'
'He is not a sobre person at all,' said Iqbal Sharma. He said four men were in the group. The 68-year-old man said he had recently undergone bypass surgery and had lung problem and he fell down. 'We do not expect this kind of behaviour from celebrities and that too in a five star restaurant. They were very, very rowdy,' said the father-in-law. 'We will fight both civil and criminal cases against him,' Iqbal Sharma said.
Saif and Kareena, who have announced that they would get married eventually, star together in the upcoming release AGENT VINOD.
Saif, son of late cricketer Mansoor Ali Khan Pataudi and actor Sharmila Tagore, became the new Nawab (a princely title) of Pataudi (a town near Gurgaon which was once a princely estate) after his father's death last year.

The “bad boy” in Saif, shows up again!
Bollywood actor Saif Ali Khan was accused by a South African businessman Iqbal Sharma, for hitting and abusing him and his father-in-law, at a five star hotel, in Mumbai.
“It was an uncivilized way to behave in a public space,” Sharma said.
It all started when Mr Sharma requested the restaurant manager to ask the actor and his celebrity friends, including Kareena Kapoor, Amrita Arora and Malaika Arora Khan, to lower their voices. The actor lost his cool and called Sharma an “idiot”.
In order to avoid a fight, Sharma and his family decided to move to another part of the restaurant.
“As we were going down the stairs, Saif was coming up, probably from the toilet. As he passed me, he called me an idiot and asked ‘do you know who I am?’”
Saif is now booked under a case of assault, by the Mumbai police.
Now that his film Agent Vinod is soon to be released, do you think all this drama is a publicity stunt?...being a human...

Who is speaking the truth? Saif or the aggrieved party L'affaire midnight brawlIn Urdu there is a couplet, 'Badnaam hue to kya hua naam toh hua' which when translated means that even bad publicity also facilitates in expanding the outreach of the name. Well, would one club the brawl that Saif Ali Khan entered into at Taj Wasabi with a guest qualify under this category? Saif Ali Khan obviously would not have wanted it to happen this way, but it has happened.
Surprisingly enough, the experts of the film industry, the leading voices who articulate their views on the happening in the film industry and are in a way catalyst in facilitating image building of the industry have risen in defense of Saif Ali Khan, by equating the outburst with the stress that a film persona has to endear and that it ought to viewed from this perspective. It is churlish to say the least to equate the outburst as a stress relief, because it is not the film star who is under stress of a greater magnitude than a common man out on the street or other persons associated with public life. It is a lonely life as success is the chimera, an elusive one at that which the stars try to attain, but does it warrant the provocation that Saif Ali Khan indulged in? On the eve of release of his solo star (after a long time, he is starring in a solo) AGENT VINOD, would Saif have desired this kind of incident?
It is also been brandied about by the experts that as he comes from a lineage and is well brought up he would not have done that at all. Well, those with lineage and a tradition behind them think 100 times before indulging in such kind of a behavior as they are constantly under media scrutiny for their acts, their conduct.

Saif Ali Khan arrested for trashing man in hotel brawl
Bollywood Actor Saif Ali Khan, who is busy promoting his much awaited Spy-thriller film "Agent Vinod" is got in big trouble for trashing Iqbal Sharma, a businessman, and punched him in the nose last night at the Taj Palace in Colaba in Mumbai. Incidentally his girlfriend Kareena Kapoor was also present with him when the incident occurred. Iqbal Nadim Sharma, 44, is a resident of Juhu, Mumbai.
Khan, 41, was dining with girlfriend Kareena Kapoor and friends at the Taj Mahal Palace hotel on Tuesday night when he got into an argument with complainant Iqbal Sharma. The actor and his friends have been booked under IPC 325 (voluntarily causing grievous hurt) and 34 (acts done by several persons in furtherance of common intention).
"The section under which he has been booked is bailable. He has to come with a surety and if we find that the surety is a sound surety, we will grant him bail," ACP Iqbal Shaikh told reporters. Asked about the actor's whereabouts and if he was traceable, the officer said, "He is not reachable."
The complainant Iqbal Sharma approached the police claiming that he was attacked by Khan and his friends, during which, he was punched by the actor.
Apparently, Iqbal was also having dinner with his family at an adjoining table next to Saif. And when Iqbal complained about the noise that was coming from Saif’s table, a scuffle started between them as Saif, reportedly, told him to go to a library to find peace.
A few sections of the media also reported that the scuffle actually took place between Amrita Arora Ladak’s husband Shakeel Ladak. It was only when Saif intervened that he got into the brawl with Iqbal.
Sources also said that that there was a huge altercation before a full blown out fight. Sheikh alleged that Saif punched him in the nose. Security guards intervened to stop the quarrel.
Shaikh said the statements of eight witnesses have been recorded and footage of the CCTV cameras was being scanned as part of the ongoing investigation.
This is not the first time that Saif has been involved in brawls. Earlier he booked in 2008 for assaulting a photojournalist in Patiala during the shooting of a film. The actor had to later apologise and the case was resolved amicably.
Meanwhile the people at Wasabi refused to comment on the incident. Pankaj Singh, the floor manager at the Wasabi said, "I wasn't here last night so I don't know about anything that happened at the restaurant nor have I heard anything from anyone here."

Saif - I was hit first and verbally abused
Bollywood actor Saif Ali Khan is in news once again for wrong reasons. The Bollywood star, who is eagerly waiting for was embroiled in a black buck hunting case in 1998, is again in the dock - this time for punching a South African businessman at a five-star hotel here.
Police detained Saif Ali Khan and his friends Bilal Amrohi and actress Amrita Arora's husband Shakeel Ladak at the Marine Drive police station, and later brought them to the Colaba police station. The interrogation of the trio - about the incident early Wednesday at the Taj Mahal Hotel in which Saif is accused of assaulting South African NRI businessman Iqbal Sharma - lasted one hour.
They were formally arrested and then given bail on personal bonds of Rs.3,000 each.
According to sources, Shakeel Ladak is said to have hit Sharma's father-in-law in the scuffle. Shakeel and Bilal's lawyer Mahesh Vaswani told IANS: "Iqbal and his group of people were passing comments on the girls (who were part of Saif's group), and that started the incident."
On his part, Saif said he had only "defended" himself after being "assaulted". "There was an ugly incident last night (Tuesday) where my friends and the ladies with us were abused and I was assaulted. I was hit and I defended myself," Saif said in a statement.
“I was hit first. And as shocking as it may seem, the elderly gentleman hit me. I’m not sure what provoked him. “I am looking forward to CCTV footage (inside the restaurant),” he said, adding that the footage would prove that he was innocent.
"I have been to the police station to answer the requirements of law as I am a law abiding citizen. I have also filed a complaint about what happened last night and I am confident justice will be done," he added.
A battery of top police officers were waiting for the actor at the Colaba police station, besides the media and scores of fans.
In the afternoon, police sent a team to Saif's house and after failing to locate him there, had ordered him to appear before them as early as possible.
Saif Ali Khan was virtually declared 'wanted' when he went incommunicado after assaulting Sharma, who is also the director general and CEO of the Trade, Industry & Investments of South Africa.
Currently, Saif is dating Kareena. So far they are in a steady relationship and there are rumours that they will tie the knot this year.

Iqbal lied, he knew that we are celebrities, says Kareena
Saif Ali Khan’s spat with Iqbal Sharma has attracted many eyeballs and given a lot of negative publicity to the actor. But Kareena Kapoor has spoken about the entire episode and cleared that Saif reacted because he was provoked. Yesterday, we at Dailybhaskar.com reported that Iqbal misbehaved with the ladies and Kareena’s statement authenticates our story.
The actress told a daily, “We were having dinner and suddenly Iqbal came to our table and started screaming at us. We were having a good time, laughing and enjoying and certainly not screaming as told by him in the media. There was no reason for him to come to our table and scream."
Kareena also cleared that Iqbal knew they were celebrities as his wife Tarina Sharma has worked in films like Dhol and Bhool Bhulaiyya. Also, she came and greeted Malaika near our table. She also said that Iqbal was the first person who pushed Saif and then the fight began.
Well, it’s time to see what will be the final verdict of the judiciary....being a human...

Kareena breaks silence over Saif-Iqbal hotel brawl
Much has been made out of the scuffle Bollywood star Saif Ali Khan had at a five-star restaurant in Mumbai this week, where he was dining with his girlfriend and co-star Kareena Kapoor, her sister Karisma, actress Amrita Arora and her husband Shakeel Ladakh along with producer Bilal Amrohi.
Saif as well as the NRI South African businessman Iqbal Sharma and his father-in-law Raman Patel, both claim that the opposite party hit them first.
Actor Saif Ali Khan's lady love Kareena Kapoor, who was present at the restaurant during the brawl night, has finally spoken up. Kareena, supporting Saif said that he was provoked and Iqbal Sharma is a publicity hungry man.
Bebo told a leading daily that when they were having dinner at the restaurant, Sharma came and blasted them. He started screaming on them. According to Kareena, they weren't making any chaos at that point of time. But Sharma's statement speaks the other version of the story as he said that Saif and group were acting like hooligan.
According to Kareena, it all started when Iqbal pushed Saif. Also Saif was hit by Sharma. Kareena feels that Saif is being targeted since he's a celebrity. Though Bebo's statement is completely for Saif, an eyewitness revealed that it was Saif who first punched Sharma.

Saif-Iqbal scuffle: Kunal thinks Saif paid price for being a celeb
Bollywood Actor Kunal Khemu has come out in support of Saif Ali Khan in the hotel brawl saying things get blown out of proportion when celebrities are involved.
Kunal, who is dating Saif's sister Soha Ali Khan, supported the 'Omkara' star over his recent brawl with an NRI businessman.
Saif was arrested and later released on bail last week for allegedly assaulting Iqbal Sharma at a restaurant in the Taj Mahal hotel in Colaba.
A case of assault was registered against Saif by Sharma. However, the actor had filed a counter-complaint saying he had acted in defence.
"Whatever we have heard is a one-sided story. Sometimes, when you are a celebrity, things get blown out of proportion. The matter is in court, so I would not like to talk much about it," Kunal told reporters on the sidelines of a promotional event of his upcoming film 'Blood Money'.
"I met both Saif and Kareena. It would not be appropriate to talk more about it," he said.
