Poूme, not poem
is visibly excited and for good reason. A ballet troupe from Paris will be enacting the poems of his father, the late poet
Harivanshrai Bachchan. A first for any Indian poet, this is Amitabh’s dream come true.
After wrapping up the shoot of Teen Patti with Sir Ben Kingsley on Friday, Amitabh headed home, but not without a stop-over at Paris for a very special meeting. Says Amitabh, “I discussed the modalities of a ballet based on my father’s poems to be performed at the classic Champs Elysées. We have a lot of work ahead of us. We need to sift through my father’s voluminous works and choose those poems whose images render themselves fluently to the ballet.”
The ballet that will be performed shortly will be the perfect show of India’s literary culture in a city regarded as the cultural hub of Europe.
As he races towards realising the dream, an excited Amitabh says, “The whole process of selecting those poems that have maximum universal resonance and are suitable of enactment in the ballet form is wonderfully exciting.
