Liverpool ready to swoop for £7m Cahill as Chelsea deal hits the skids
Liverpool have entered the race to sign Gary Cahill.
The Bolton defender, who is out of contract at the end of the season, looked set to join Chelsea after a £7million fee was agreed on Friday.
But the highly-rated 26-year-old has failed to settle on personal terms at Stamford Bridge, with Chelsea boss Andre Villas-Boas saying that the two parties were some way off finalising the deal
Villas-Boas said: 'We're still miles apart regarding agreement with the player.
'We will continue to monitor this situation and other targets for this position. I think we can sort it out. It should be no problem.
'The best outcome for us is for the player to join us. His technical attributes are immense. His pace is fantastic as well. He's been playing magnificently at international level, normally alongside John Terry, and he can add to this squad or any squad.
'He can make this jump. But we are still far away in terms of agreement with the player.'
And According to the Daily Mirror, Liverpool are ready to vest their interest.
Manager Kenny Dalglish is a huge admirer of Cahill and is prepared to swoop, with the defender reportedly preferring to stay in the north.
Cahill joined Bolton from Aston Villa for £5million in January 2008 and has emerged as one of the country's finest central defenders, forcing his way into Fabio Capello's England squad.

Even if they miss out on Cahill, Chelsea could still sign an England international in January - they’re said to be keen on Everton starlet Jack Rodwell although, like Manchester United, they won’t match the £20 million asking price. A summer move could be more probable.

The 28-year-old is out of contract at his hometown club in the summer but isn’t massively keen to leave.
Daily Mail: Fulham are ready to sign Marseille striker Andre-Pierre Gignac on loan and also want Guillaume Hoarau from Paris St Germain. However, it may all depend on whether they can offload Bobby Zamora and Andrew Johnson. The former could join QPR, Aston Villa Sunderland or former club West Ham, while Blackburn are keen on the latter.
Chelsea prepare record £84m move for Porto striker Hulk
Rubin Kazan are keen on Everton flop Diniyar Bilyaletdinov. The Toffees want £6 million for the midfielder they spent £8.9 million signing in August 2009.

Tottenham have emerged as contenders for the signature of Juventus winger Milos Krasic, after it was initially thought he would go on loan to Chelsea in January.
One player Harry Redknapp will not be signing is Santos star Ganso. Spurs had been linked with the 22-year-old Brazilian but the Spurs manager admitted he had never heard of him.
Manchester Evening News Reports, Gary Cahill will miss the FA Cup third-round trip to Macclesfield and could be a Chelsea player by Sunday, according to Bolton boss Owen Coyle.
Arsene Wenger wants Theo Walcott to stay at Arsenal. Juventus have been linked with the winger, but Wenger said: "We want to keep Theo and he knows that. Of course [he earns his money] - he works every day and works very hard. His attitude is great. I have no problems with that at all."
Marek Hamsik would welcome a move to Barcelona, Chelsea or Real Madrid, his agent says.
AS carries the rumour that Barcelona could try to sign Diego Forlan from Inter after the injury to David Villa.
Lee Ryder of Newcastle's Evening Chronicle thinks Demba Ba will stay put: "My view is #nufc will draw up a new deal for Demba Ba, also seems delighted with life here too, told me the Toon more chilled then London."
There was talk before that Inter could cancel Mauro Zarate's season-long loan deal this month. Lazio boss Edy Reja has now suggested Zarate might return at the end of the season and could yet be part of the club's plans for the 2012-13 campaign.
One line that slipped through the net yesterday - Wigan have announced that they have cancelled Patrick van Aanholt's season-long loan from Chelsea. He's not featured since October 1 and it was decided that it was in both clubs' best interests for him to return to Stamford Bridge.
Chelsea are said to be close to a deal to sign 18-year-old Nigerian defender Kenneth Omeruo from Standard Liege. Omroep West says the Blues plan to immediately loan him to Dutch side ADO Den Haag.
Luis Enrique fully expects Daniele De Rossi to remain at Roma. “We all know what Roma means for the Romans and that is why I am not worried," he said. "He will stay because this is what he wants - at least, that’s what I think. Someone of De Rossi’s level should’ve renewed some time ago, but every day he trains with a smile on his face. Losing him in January is not an option.”
The Press Association is reporting that Newcastle have no intention of allowing Demba Ba to leave, with the striker happy at the club. It's emerged that Ba has a release clause in his contract that apparently stands at £10 million.
Sky Sports is reporting that Dundee United midfielder Scott Allen has passed a medical at West Brom.
Corriere dello Sport thinks Inter Milan are desperate to land Carlos Tevez and, while like AC Milan they are only offering an initial loan deal, the Nerazzurri's option to buy would be raised to €27 million and with higher wages on offer. Football Italia reports that the Italian press are unanimous in claiming Milan are furious with Inter.
AC Milan vice-president Adriano Galliani provides a less than illuminating insight into the Carlos Tevez negotiations. "We have an agreement with the player; now there's an ongoing negotiation with Manchester City and we expect an answer," he told Sky Sport Italia.

Until something concrete happens, I will only think about Istanbul BB as I want to play in Turkey and be as good as I can.”
Sunderland boss Martin O’Neill is not expecting anyone to leave in January despite speculation over Stephane Sessegnon and Kieran Richardson. QPR are said to have offered £2 million for the 30-year-old but Jol said: "What's the point for us - for Fulham, for my club - to sell a player for that sort of money? To get somebody will cost a lot more money so for me there is no problem. He is still under contract so we have to wait and see. If somebody wants him they have to pay a good transfer fee so we can buy another good player.”
Harry Redknapp doesn’t seem to want anyone to leave Spurs despite having a host of unhappy players. "The odd game here and there won't be enough to keep them happy, but what can you do? You have got to have a big squad,” he said.
CSKA Moscow have signed 19-year-old Nigerian winger Ahmed Musa from VVV-Venlo for €5 million.
Norwich fans could be in for a slow month. Manager Paul Lambert said: “We’ve tried to get people in. But I just don’t want to bring people in if they’re just going to make up the numbers. I want people to come in to give us a hand and at the minute nothing is happening.”
Daniele De Rossi is going nowhere. "In my opinion, [De Rossi] will remain at Roma. In football, it is a lifestyle and money is not the only thing considered," said Luis Enrique at a press conference on Saturday. "The player will choose his own future but he's fine here and I do not see why he should go away. A sale in January? I exclude it."
