Silk Smitha seems to have successfully established her star status in the box office again. 'The Dirty Picture' pulled in a whopping 36 crores worldwide in its opening weekend.
With figures like that - the Milan Luthria movie based on a 80's dancing star has become one the biggest grossing industry openers of the year.
The movie got a bumper opening at the Indian Box Office as it collected an unprecedented 32.7 crores (Friday – 9.54 crores, Saturday – 10.78 crores, Sunday – 12.38 crores) from all versions (Hindi, Tamil, Telugu).

In the international markets, the film released day-and-date in the UAE, United Kingdom, North America, Mauritius, Malaysia, Singapore, Kenya, Tanzania, Indonesia, South Africa, Australia, New Zealand, Fiji and Hong Kong. Its net opening in these territories was approximately 3.5 crores.
The opening is the biggest for the cast, Vidya Balan, Emraan Hashmi, and Naseeruddin Shah, and for director Milan Luthria, whose 'Once Upon A Time In Mumbaai' was a huge hit.
The Dirty Picture was put out on 1766 screens across the country, the widest ever for a set-up of this kind, and on 120 screens abroad.
The cast and crew had gone all guns to promote the movie - in multiplexes, through serials on prime time and a huge music launch. The extensive marketing strategy helped the movie tremendously however - the sheer power of the content and the acting skills of the actors have pulled the movie through an extremely successful first weekend.
