Rooney: Don't axe Villas-Boas
Manchester United star Wayne Rooney believes it would be a mistake for Premier League rivals Chelsea to part ways with Andre Villas-Boas so soon after appointing the Portuguese manager.
Villas-Boas, who joined the club from FC Porto in June, has come under heavy fire in recent times due to the Blues' poor run of form. Chelsea have lost four of their past seven matches in all competitions, which has seen them off to their worst start to a season since Roman Abramovich took ownership in 2003.
Rooney, though, says those in power at Stamford Bridge should look to his club as an example during these turbulent times. Sir Alex Ferguson this year celebrated 25 years at the helm of United, and similar stability, Rooney explains, could see Chelsea back on track.
"There's a lot of people saying he should be sacked, that Chelsea should make another change," Rooney told The Sun newspaper. "There's no need to do that, I cannot see the point in that at all.
"I must admit I've been surprised by Chelsea's problems because in the last few years they've always been so solid, so hard to score against and so very difficult to beat. This season that hasn't been the case but they've a new manager and a new way of playing which will take time to settle.
"Look at Manchester United celebrating 25 years of success under Sir Alex and look at Arsene Wenger at Arsenal and David Moyes at Everton. Ten years and more of stability and consistency there. So for me the best option is to keep faith and keep your manager."
