Default Abbas-Mustan: 'Not afraid of Don 2'

The official Indian remake of The Italian Job, Players, that was earlier scheduled as a Christmas attraction will now open on January 6. Director duo Abbas-Mustan insist that the release was pushed ahead to the first weekend of the next year, not to avert a clash with Don 2.

"We're not afraid of Don 2 but we thought it prudent to take the film forward because when two big-budget films come together, they can eat into each other's business. This way, Players will be the first big movie of 2012 and will get a solo run," reasons Abbas.

The film produced by the Burmawallahs and Viacom 18 was earlier supposed to come on December 6 with Saif Ali Khan's home production Agent Vinod and YRF's con caper Ladies VS Ricky Bahl. Brushing off speculations that another reason for the delay was because they weren't able to complete the thriller on deadline, Mustan says, "That's nonsense, we had wrapped up the shoot by August. We just had some patchwork and a song left that we shot in November. We were ready well in time even though we've shot the film extensively in New Zealand and in Russia in subzero temperatures."

The directors have started shooting for the long-anticipated sequel, Race 2, and are now preparing for a schedule in Turkey and Cyprus. Meanwhile, an interesting story idea is being developed into a two-hour script for a 3D thriller. "We're also in talks with Akshay Kumar for a film. If we can work out the dates, may be next year you'll see us back with our 'khiladi'," smiles Mustan. There have also been talks of a film with 'Baazigar' Shah Rukh Khan. Abbas admits that the trio are keen to reunite. "But Shah Rukh's been really busy this year with RA.One and Don 2," he points out. "We haven't had a chance to sit together, we will when he's a little free."
