Shah Rukh Khan’s Ra.One Rocks At Overseas Box-Office
Shah Rukh Khan’s superhero movie Ra.One has taken off to a very good start in the Overseas circuit also. The film collected a total of £ 1,90,000 in UK and $ 2,30,000 in the US on the opening day (Wednesday, October 26).
In Singapore, where Ra.One was released on Tuesday, collection was US $ 40,000 on day one. On Wednesday, the collections in Singapore were $ 85,000. It is to be noted that the lifetime collections of 3 Idiots and My Name Is Khan in Singapore were $ 2,00,000 and $ 4,05,000 respectively. With such fantastic collections on the first two days itself, Ra.One seems to be headed for a good run in the South-East Asian nation. In UAE, the film collected 7,00,000 dirhams on the opening day, which was what Dabangg also collected. Bodyguard had collected 11,00,000 dirhams (highest ever).
Overall, on its first day, Ra.One has collected equivalent of Rs. 6.50 crore in the Overseas circuit, which is phenomenal by any standard..
Eros Clears Air Over Factually Incorrect Ra.One Box-Office Report
The Times Of India this morning ran a story on its front page, claiming that the first day’s collection of Ra.One was Rs. 22 crore. The report is silent about whether the figure is net or gross and whether it is all-India or all-world. The same report goes on to compare this figure with the first day net all-India collection of Bodyguard (Rs. 21.5 crore). Therefore, by implication, the figure of Rs. 22 crore is the net all-India collection of Ra.One. Well, Eros International has clarified that the report (which has quoted a so-called trade analyst as saying that “the Hindi version will collect more than Rs. 20 crore, and if one adds the collections of the Tamil and Telugu versions, it will go up to Rs. 22 crore) was incorrect. The correct first-day figure for the Hindi version is Rs. 15.5 to Rs. 16 crore. If we were to add the collections of the dubbed Tamil and dubbed Telugu versions to this figure, the total would come to Rs. 18 crore.
The misleading report was titled, ‘Ra.One snatches Day One honours’. By Eros’ own admission, the day one honour has not been snatched as the first-day record is still held by Bodyguard. Maybe, the newspaper will now carry a story in tomorrow’s edition and title it, ‘Day One Honour Snatched Back From Ra.One’...being a human...
10-27-2011, 11:20 PM #2Ra.One may not be doing really well with the critics but the audience response to the film has been marvelous so far.
The opening day, despite being Diwali, a festival where people prefer staying at home, managed an occupancy of 90 to 100 percent. Theaters have been packed for the coming days too. With such response on the first day it self, the film is definitely cross the 100 crore mark, within a week.

Ra.One’s opening day collection…
This years Diwali saw Shah Rukh Khan’s dream project, Ra.One release and while some critics termed the move as mere video game, most critics gave it a thumbs up. The sci-fic managed to collect Rs.18 crore at the home box office on the opening day.
However, the film couldn’t exceed or rather say equal the first day collection records of Salman Khan starrer “Bodyguard”, which opened at a huge sum of Rs.22 crore
The overseas market saw the Red Chillies Entertainment and Eros International co-production a collection of Rs.6.5 crore.
Ra.One, the 150 crore film, is directed by Anubhav Sinha. The film also has Kareena Kapoor and Arjun Rampal essaying the roles of the lead heroine and the antagonist, respectively. The film released in 3,500 screens across the world....being a human...

Shahrukh Khan’s ‘RA.One’ rules the worldwide box office!
RA.One collected Rs. 26.5 crore across the world on its opening day (including Rs. 18.5 crore in India), beating Bodyguard’s mighty Rs. 21 crore
The opening salvos have been fired and it’s round one to SRK. The numbers for Shahrukh Khan’s magnum opus RA.One are out and they tell a very interesting tale. Opinions may differ, but numbers don’t lie and the hard fact is that RA.One collected Rs. 26.5 crore across the world on its opening day (including Rs. 18.5 crore in India), beating Bodyguard’s mighty Rs. 21 crore. SRK supporters may argue that the opening day, Wednesday, coincided with the Diwali puja performed by millions of people thus reducing footfall and people would turn out in larger numbers subsequently. That turned out to be the case and on Thursday the audience turned out en masse. On day two, RA.One netted a humongous Rs. 25.1 crore in India alone, making it the highest ever collection on a single day for an Indian film.
Salman fans may argue that RA.One had the added advantage of being released in dubbed Tamil, Telugu and 3D versions. But then again, Bodyguard couldn’t do that because it appeared in its Bollywood avatar after being hits in Malayalam and Tamil. It was a different story in south India that changed rapidly. As insurance, SRK had roped in Superstar Rajinikanth for a cameo, but word quickly spread in the south that the appearance lasts barely a minute. With Suriya’s 7Aam Arivu and Vijay’s Velayudham competing for eyeballs, the good southern folk opted for those instead. However, since those films proved to be underwhelming, the South turned to good old SRK and collections jumped 60-100% on Thursday.
The only bad news for SRK is that pirated versions of RA.One are circulating freely on the internet, including on the film’s official partner YouTube. This begs the question, quis custodiet ipsos custodies? Which, in case your Latin ain’t what it used to be, gentle reader, means ‘who will guard the guardians?’
Meanwhile, the corporate honchos at Eros International, who shelled out Rs. 150 crore to buy SRK’s vanity project, are ecstatic. Since Cineswami is kind and the lovely Bollywoodlife readers need their beauty sleep, here’s some zzz-speak that’ll make you nod right off.
Nandu Ahuja, Sr VP, Distribution, Eros International Media Ltd said, “We are witnessing unparalleled collections across the country with record breaking figures from different territories. Business usually gets hampered on Diwali day in the evening due to Laxmi puja, despite which RA.One has performed exceptionally well across the country and has proved to be the biggest ever Diwali day release. The film has opened at 95 to 100 percent collections from most territories and is a sure sign of one of the biggest blockbusters in the making in Bollywood. The second day figures have also broken records for the highest collections for a single day for an Indian film.”
Kamal Jain, Group CFO, Eros International Media Ltd added, “Majority of the film’s costs have been recovered before the film hit theatres and the box office numbers are exemplary giving major boost to profitability. We are extremely happy with the box office performance of the film as the same is very much in line with our expectations.”...being a human...

Shahrukh’s Ra.One sets new record at Indian Box Office on third daySuperstar Shahrukh Khan's latest movie Ra.One failed to beat the first day record of Salman Khan's Bodyguard at the Box Office. But the superhero film has set a new record on the third day with its collection crossing Rs. 57 crores nett in the Indian Box Office.
Bodyguard had smashed all records by grossing Rs. 21.25 crore on the opening day. Whereas Ra.One also got bumper opening with its occupancy ranging from 70-100% in two shows across the country. But its business went down in later screenings on the first day due to Diwali festivities. It ended up by collecting Rs. 14.63 crore nett from the Hindi version and Rs. 2 crore nett from the Tamil and Telugu versions.
The collection of Bodyguad had gone down drastically on the second and with earning reaching Rs. 17.25 crore. Whereas Ra.One did a fair business and its collection went up by nearly 60% on the second day. The science fiction flick earned Rs. 22.8 crore in the Hindi version alone.
On the third day, Bodyguard business had fallen even further and it had collected Rs. 13.25 crore. Comparing to its second day collection, Ra.One also fell down at Box Office. But it did better business than its first day collection. It grossed Rs. 15.50 crore nett on the third day.
However, Shahrukh-Kareena starrer has set a record three day collection of Rs. 53 crore nett, by surpassing previous record of Bodyguard, which had grossed 52.60 crores. The Tamil and Telugu versions of the film also collected around Rs. 4 crore nett over three days, giving it a total of Rs. 57 crore nett....being a human...

Shahrukh Khan’s ‘RA.One’ sits atop Rs. 170 crore collections!Eros International, co-producers of Shahrukh Khan’s ambitious RA.One having shelled out Rs. 150 crore to acquire the film, have claimed a worldwide five day (Wednesday to Sunday) gross of Rs. 170 crore. Over the weekend alone, RA.One grossed Rs. 137.25 crore in India (net collection of Rs. 96 crore). Overseas where they don’t mess about with gross and net and a single figure is announced, the film took Rs. 32.75 crore, according to Eros.
RA.One opened at over 3,100 plus screens in India and 904 prints internationally, including 3D, Tamil and Telugu. In the UK, for some strange reason, the film didn’t open wide and is getting a bigger release only from Monday. Even if the Eros figures are accurate, RA.One is still a long way away from the 3 Idiots‘ lifetime gross of Rs. 358 crore. However, SRK’s baby has plenty of legs left yet. The film is scheduled for theatrical release in the first quarter of 2012 across several territories including South Korea, Hong Kong, Taiwan, Russia, Lebanon, Jordan, Syria and Palestine, Brazil, Spain, Italy and Greece.
As always, the good folk at Eros must have their say and here you are:
Nandu Ahuja, Sr VP, Distribution, Eros International Media Ltd thundered, “RA.One released to packed houses across the country on Diwali day and has already created history by taking over the mantle of the biggest domestic earner so far. The film continues to be on its record-breaking spree with several new achievements since its release. It has touched the highest individual collection in circuits such as Mumbai, Delhi, Punjab and Rajasthan. We see repeat viewings of the movie with the 3D version being equally sought after. With the Eid holiday also coming up next week and no other major film release; we are anticipating the film to continue doing huge numbers.”
Pranab Kapadia, President, Distribution, Eros International crowed, “The film is enjoying a superb run across all major regions including UK, North America, Europe, Australia and the Middle East. Overseas, the film has broken SRK’s own previous first weekend record established by My Name is Khan and Ra. One now occupies the position of biggest Indian first weekend grosser overseas as well. The Saturday release of 3D versions in most overseas markets means that we are looking at the film continuing to do some excellent numbers through the coming weeks.”
Ken Naz, President, Eros International, USA exulted, “Despite storms in the east coast and a state of emergency declared, the film has performed so well. Apart from audience appreciation, leading media like the New York Times and LA Times have hailed the film too and we can confidently declare this film to be one of the biggest ever blockbusters and top earners for an Indian film in the USA.”
They also go on to shamelessly plug all the brands that the film is associated with. Seeing as we are kind people and that you are already victims of the film’s saturation marketing, we’ll spare you those details....being a human...

Ra.One weekend collections break BO recordsRa.One is certainly not the favourite of the critics, but Shah Rukh Khan, the super hero, seems to be working at the box office.
Shah Rukh Khan's Rs 150-crore magnum opus Ra.One has smashed box-office records with never-before opening weekend collections.
The film, which released worldwide on Diwali, collected Rs 96 crore net in its five-day festive opening weekend at roughly 3,100 screens across India.
Critics may have lashed out against the film's sloppy script, but it didn't stop Ra.One from breaking the record for highest collections in a single day, making an unprecedented Rs 23.5 crores last Thursday alone.
However, it must be noted that Ra.One’s collections reflect revenues from Tamil and Telugu versions of the film in addition to the Hindi version, steep numbers are also thanks to higher ticket prices for the 3D version.
Ending weeks of nail-biting tension over whether Ra.One could beat Bodyguard records, the Shah Rukh Khan-starrer registered considerably bigger opening-weekend numbers than Salman Khan's last hit.
Bodyguard, which enjoyed a similar five-day festive opening weekend when it released on Eid in August, was produced on a budget of roughly Rs 85 crore rupees, and arrived on approximately 2700 screens in India.
While Ra.One collected as much as Rs 32.75 crore, Bodyguard was able to collect Rs 27 crore in their respective five-day weekends abroad.
Ra.One may have beaten Bodyguard in the battle for the opening weekend, but question is – will the film's winning streak continue? Will it beat the Rs 300-crore plus worldwide collections of 3 Idiots? That's the true test. That's the big record to break. Answer's out soon.
Record collections worldwide
Since its release, Ra.One has been creating history by shattering regional, national and international box office record after record with the biggest Diwali day opening followed by the biggest single day collections for an Indian film and now the biggest ever weekend release for both India and overseas box office.
Commenting on the opening, Nandu Ahuja, Sr VP, Distribution, Eros International Media Ltd said, "Ra. One released to packed houses across the country on Diwali day and has already created history by taking over the mantle of the biggest domestic earner so far. The film continues to be on its record breaking spree with several new achievements since its release. It has touched the highest individual collection in circuits such as Mumbai, Delhi, Punjab and Rajasthan. We see repeat viewings of the movie with the 3-D version being equally sought after. With the Eid holiday also coming up next week and no other major film release; we are anticipating the film to continue doing huge numbers".
The international exposure of Ra.One will continue to grow in the coming months as Eros International continues to take the film to more and more countries. The film is scheduled for theatrical release in the first quarter of 2012 across several territories including South Korea, Hong Kong , Taiwan , Russia , Lebanon, Jordan, Syria and Palestine , Brazil , Spain, Italy and Greece .
Ra.One is Shah Rukh Khan's most ambitious project to date directed by Anubhav Sinha starring King Khan himself as G.One along with Arjun Rampal as Ra.One and Kareena Kapoor. The film's visual effects and state of the art production techniques have set a new standard in Indian film. All this, combined with a widely acclaimed soundtrack produced by Vishal & Shekhar and featuring Grammy award nominee Akon, have made Ra.One a must see film.
For Eros, the success of Ra.One is part of its ongoing slate of film releases. In the current financial year it expects to release over 70 Indian films with high profile releases to date including Ready, Murder 2, Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara and Mausam. The line-up for the remainder of the financial year continues to look very attractive with three major releases still to come – Imtiaz Ali's Rockstar, Rohit Dhawan's Desi Boyz and Shriram Raghavan’s Agent Vinod....being a human...

Ra.One, Bollywood superstar Shahrukh Khan's most ambitious project to date, has earned Rs 170 crore in the opening weekend, distributor said.
Produced by Red Chillies and Eros International, Ra.One (released on October 26), grossed Rs 170 crore in first five days. The movie earned Rs 18 crore in India on opening day.
So far, it has raked in Rs137.25 crore (net collection of Rs 96 crore) in India, and Rs32.75 crore overseas.
"The film has created history by taking over the mantle of the biggest domestic earner so far. It has touched the highest individual collection in circuits such as Mumbai, Delhi, Punjab and Rajasthan. We see repeat viewings of the movie with the 3-D version being equally sought-after," Nandu Ahuja of Eros International Media Ltd said.
"With the Eid holiday also coming up next week and no other major film releases, we are anticipating the film to continue doing huge numbers."
The film opened at over 4,000 screens worldwide. It is scheduled for further theatrical release in the first quarter of 2012 across several other territories including South Korea, Hong Kong, Taiwan, Russia, Lebanon, Jordan, Syria and Palestine, Brazil, Spain, Italy and Greece.

Shahrukh Khan's 'Ra.One' is not yet a hit! There are reports of Shahrukh Khan’s Ra.One doing well at the box office, but the insiders claim that the movie is still not a hit. However, while talking to the press, Shahrukh Khan said that he and his team have invested Rs 125 crore in the film, and he is happy that his partners could make money.
But the inside story seems different! The distributors of ‘Ra.One’ claim that the superhero flick has grossed over Rs. 170 crore at the BO. But, since ‘Ra.One’ is made on a humungous budget of Rs. 150 crore, it is not a hit yet.
A prominent trade analyst, while talking to a daily said that Eros, the company distributing ‘Ra.One’, will fail to recover their investment. He further adds, “Ra.One is not at all a success; forget being a hit. Those who have bought the film are going to lose money. The figures have started going down and if this continues, it’ll be difficult to match even the Rs. 100 crore figure.”
The collections of ‘Ra.One’ witnessed a considerable drop since Monday. The film’s collection on Monday was said to be “alarmingly” low. It reportedly made Rs. 92 crore in India until Sunday which includes the Tamil and Telugu versions. The original Hindi version managed a business of Rs. 84 crore. Another trade expert maintained that it can be called a success, but not a hit.
Comparing the movie to Salman Khan’s recent superhit Bodyguard and Aamir Khan’s 2009 blockbuster 3 Idiots is inevitable. But as Bodyguard was made at one-third the price of ‘Ra.One’, and it didn’t even have a 3D version, the amount of money Bodyguard earned on first four days was jaw-dropping. But the same can’t be said about ‘Ra.One’, though it surpassed the first two-day collection of Bodyguard which was about Rs 39 crore.
Coming to 3 Idiots, the movie grossed Rs. 202 crore, while the gross earnings of ‘Ra.One’ in India is about Rs 137 crore, according to recent reports....being a human...

Ra.One not a success; forget being a hit!Shahrukh Khan’s Ra.One must have earned a lot in cash. However, the film hasn’t yet been declared a hit.
‘Ra.One’ distributors claim that the flick has been made with a huge sum of Rs. 150 crore and that the film having earned over Rs. 170 crore at the BO, it is not a hit yet.
While talking to a daily, a prominent trade analyst said, “Ra.One is not at all a success; forget being a hit. Those who have bought the film are going to lose money. The figures have started going down and if this continues, it’ll be difficult to match even the Rs. 100 crore figure.”
If we compare Salman Khan’s Bodyguard and SRK’s Ra.One, it is clear that Bodyguard has earned superbly and much more than Ra.One, since Bodyguard was made at one-third the price of ‘Ra.One’, and it didn’t even have a 3D version too. Though ‘Ra.One’, surpassed the first two-day collection of Bodyguard, Bodyguard is a superhit, considering the above....being a human...

Ra.One' collections drop, distributors suffer
While RA.One couldn't boost its collections last week, the other two Hindi releases sank without a trace
Post Diwali, RA.One had yet another long weekend, thanks to Eid yesterday. But the film saw a drop in collections that started last Monday onwards. Trade analysts peg weekend figures (in India) at about R 7 crore, and concede that it's not a hit.
The newer releases like Loot and Miley Naa Miley Hum couldn't lure the audience to watch the Govinda, Suniel Shetty and Mahakshay Chakraborty-starrer or Chirag Paswan- Kangna Ranaut romance either.
Dismissing the fate of the new films at the BO, veteran trade analyst Amod Mehra says, "People aren't interested in seeing these films. They're washouts." On the other hand, Komal Nahta, trade expert terms them: "One is worse than the other."
Interestingly, despite the negative word-of-mouth, RA.One fared better during the weekend as compared to Loot and Miley Naa Miley Hum.
"Last Monday onwards, the numbers of the SRK-starrer have been falling like a landslide. This weekend saw it collect Rs 7 odd crore, but it's not good enough to put the film into big league," pointed out Mehra.
A distributor based in Central India said that considering the numbers were low on the first Sunday, there was no hope in the second weekend for the Anubhav Sinha directed special effects extravaganza.
"In Central India, Bodyguard collected Rs 4.30 crore in nine days, while RA.One garnered only Rs 3 crore. So how will it recover the cost for the distributor?" he said, reiterating that his counterparts in different territories are losing money on this R 150 crore movie.
He maintains, "Nizam territory was sold for Rs 7.5 crore, but this distributor is losing Rs 2.5 crore. CI territory sold for Rs 3.15 crore, but it hasn't seen more than Rs 2.5 crore.
Rajasthan went for Rs 5 crore, but is losing at least Rs 1 crore, and so is CP, where the distributor spent Rs 4.75 crore. The entire east circuit (West Bengal, Assam, Orrisa, Bihar) was sold for Rs 7 crore, but the distributor is losing about Rs 2 crore."
Nahta too says that the second week has not been good for RA.One. "Though the children liked it, elders didn't," he says, pegging the India collections of RA.One (Hindi) at Rs 103 crore for the week. "Despite over Rs 120 crore in India, including the Tamil-Telugu versions, the collections are not good enough.
While Shah Rukh Khan and Eros will make money, RA.One is not a hit as some distributors lost money. Their grievances will have to be compensated," he said, pointing out that Eros will have to make adjustments with their forthcoming Rockstar (November 11) and Desi Boyz (November 25)....being a human...
