Ahead of the home series against the West Indies and Pakistan, wicketkeeper-batsman, Mushfiqur Rahim, has been selected as the new captain of Bangladesh cricket team. All-rounder, Mohammad Mahmudullah, was chosen as the vice-captain.

Mushfiqur Rahim will lead the national team in both Test and ODI matches for the home series against the West Indies and Pakistan. The West Indian cricket team will visit Bangladesh in October and Pakistan is scheduled to visit in the last week of November.

Mushfiqur Rahim played well in the Zimbabwe tour and scored his maiden ODI century. He was the first choice for the captaincy post after regular captain Shakib Al Hasan and Vice-captain Tamim Iqbal being axed by the BCB.

Both Shakib Al Hasan and Tamim Iqbal were sacked following the teamís poor performance in Zimbabwe. Under their leadership, Bangladesh lost the one-off Test and then a five-match ODI series 3-2 in Zimbabwe. They were discharged from their position due to indiscipline during the Zimbabwe tour.

No doubt, both Shakib and Tamim are the international standard players from Bangladesh. Tamim was one of the five players to have been named the Wisden Cricketer magazine's 'World Test Player of the Year' in 2010. On the other hand, Shakib-Al-Hassan won the same title in 2009.
