A decade later, Amar and Anthony hit it offOne fine day, while shooting for their respective films Hum and Farishtey, Amitabh Bachchan and Vinod Khanna bumped into each other in the corridors of Filmcity. And photographer Vickey Aurangabadkar captured the moment through his lenses.
It was like a flashback - time travel to Circa 1979, when three brothers separated in childhood reunited in their youth in Manmohan Desaiís Amar Akbar Anthony. Though we did miss Rishi Kapoor (Akbar) and mommy Nirupa Roy, seeing Amar and Anthony holding hands did make for a beautiful picture.
Bachchan and Khanna were battling for the number one spot way back in the seventies. In fact, a popular weekly Hindi film magazine even pitted the two against each other. The professional rivalry however, never interfered with their personal relationship.
Amitabh Bachchan and Vinod Khanna
The actors came together for several blockbusters including Hera Pheri, Khoon Pasina, Parvarish, Amar Akbar Anthony and Muqaddar Ka Sikandar.
While Bachchan went on to conquer the numero uno spot, Khanna left the industry to become a follower of spiritual leader Osho (Rajneesh). Farishtey, released in 1991 was a part of Khannaís second innings in the industry.
The picture depicts the difference that one decade did to the one time competitors. And interestingly, their makeup and look for the respective characters they played in Mukul Anandís Hum and Anil Sharmaís Farishtey, only added to the divide.
