Lawyers for Strauss-Kahn's accuser defiant
PARIS (AP) — Lawyers for the maid who accused Dominique Strauss-Kahn of attempted rape say she's being treated like a suspect, and that dropping the case against the ex-International Monetary Fund chief will have a chilling effect on victims of sex crimes.
Prosecutors have asked a New York judge to dismiss the case against Strauss-Kahn based on concerns about the maid's credibility. The case is expected to be formally dropped Tuesday.
Douglas Wigdor, a lawyer for maid Nafissatou Diallo, said that "is an affront to Ms. Diallo and to all victims who come forward in the future." He said she was treated like a "suspect" in the investigation of the case.
Wigdor spoke to reporters in Paris on Tuesday. Strauss-Kahn was considered a leading contender for France's presidential election before he was arrested in New York in May.
