AC Milan make progress in Alberto Aquilani pursuit as they offer permanent deal - report
A meeting with agent Franco Zavaglia has seen AC Milan move a step closer to signing Alberto Aquilani from Liverpool.
La Gazzetta dello Sport reports the Serie A champions spent most of Monday locked in talks with Zavaglia as they presented an offer for the 27-year-old.
Following president Silvio Berlusconi's comments on how the club are seriously interested in Aquilani, it took his men into a five-hour meeting on Monday. CEO Adriano Galliani, and sporting director Ariedo Braida told the agent they want Aquilani to arrive on a permanent deal, but the figures discussed at the table remain a mystery for now.
The league champions are not keen on doing what Juventus did last year by signing him on loan and taking out an option to buy later. Instead, they are trying to persuade Liverpool and the player into a full transfer.
This would play into Aquilani's hands as he reportedly recently refused a transfer to Fiorentina because they were only offering loan terms.
Liverpool and the Italian international now have just 48 hours to decide on how to proceed.
Previous reports suggested the Merseysiders were holding out for €10 million, but Milan were said to be offering just €6m for the 27-year-old.?
