Sonakshi's wish is Joker's command
For Sonakshi Sinha, turning into a 'gaon ki gori' for a few sequences in Joker was one of the many exciting things that pulled her towards the Akshay Kumar starrer. Little did she know though that things won't quite go as per plans, courtesy her dissatisfaction over the ill fitting and rather average looking costumes coming from celebrity designer Aki Narula.
"Sonakshi was extremely excited about getting into a 'ghaghra choli' avtar but soon realised that the clothes handed over to her were not up to the mark. When she complained to the production unit about it, they sent a word for Aki to report on the sets and make a correction", informs a unit member.
However, Aki was unavailable on phone and was untraceable for almost 48 hours. This is when the issue reached director Shirish Kunder's ears who was shocked at such unprofessionalism.
"He assured Sonakshi that he would sort it out", the source continues, "He personally called up Aki but there was no luck even then. Since Joker is anyways being shot on a tight schedule, there was no room for further delays. After a week long wait, Shirish and his team gave up. Shirish fired Aki and immediately roped in another designer Rick Roy who was anyways quite keen to work with him since the Jaan-e-Mann days."
To the relief of Sonakshi, Rick reported on the sets pronto and took charge of not just her costumes but the entire film, hence winning her appreciation and earning a big break for himself.
On contacted, Shirish confirmed that Rick is now charge of costumes for the entire film. He refused to get into details around Aki's firing though. "Yes, Aki had to leave due to certain issues we had around delivering as per quality and timelines. We are quite happy with the way Rick has started handling things. Sonakshi as well as the rest of the cast is quite happy with his work."
