It's Priety's Birthday :D
Preity started her career with Mani Ratnam’s SRK-starrer ‘Dil Se’. She has, of late, been changing tracks to do her bit for what she calls “responsible cinema”.
Known for her spontaneity, Preity has given some memorable performances in movies such as ‘Kya Kehna’, ‘Kal Ho Na Ho’, ‘Lakshya’, ‘Kabhi Al Vida Na Kehna’ and ‘Veer Zaara’.
Beneath the veneer of that famous dimpled smile is a woman of steel who not only speaks her mind, but does not flinch in tough situations. In 2003, as a witness in the Bharat Shah case, Preity testified against the Mumbai underworld. Unlike 13 others, including her industry peers such as Salman Khan and Shah Rukh Kan, Zinta repeated in Court that she had received extortion threats from the mafia.
The true Miss 'Bold and Beautiful' of Bollywood turned 34, three days ago.
Zinta was born into a Hindu Rajput family in Shimla, Himachal Pradesh. Her father, Durganand Zinta, was an officer in the Indian Army, died in a car accident when she was 13-years-old. The tragic accident and her father's death were significant turning points in her life.
Preity studied at the Convent of Jesus and Mary boarding school in Shimla. She is a post-graduate in Criminal Psychology.
Her brothers are Deepankar and Manish. The former is a commissioned officer in the Indian Army and the latter lives in California.
Her first role in an international film, 'Heaven on Earth', fetched her the Best Actress (Silver Hugo) award at the 2008 Chicago International Film Festival.
Zinta's first television commercial was for Perk chocolates, following which she endorsed many prestigious brands, including Liril.
She was scheduled to make her debut in Shekhar Kapur's 'Tara Rum Pum Pum', but its filming was cancelled. Kapur later recommended her name to Mani Ratnam for 'Dil Se'.
For her courage in speaking the truth in the face of threats from the underworld, Preity was awarded the Godfrey Phillips National Bravery Award.
Zinta was the female lead in India's three highest-grossing films of 2003: 'The Hero: Love Story of a Spy', 'Koi... Mil Gaya' and 'Kal Ho Naa Ho'.
Zinta's role in 'Kya Kehna', which dealt with single parenthood and teenage pregnancy, gained Zinta wider recognition. A quality performance earned her first nomination for Best Actress at the Filmfare Awards.
Zinta's first world tour, Craze 2001, was performed across the U.S. alongside Anil Kapoor, Aamir Khan, Aishwarya Rai and Gracy Singh. Her last world tour, The Unforgettable Tour, was with the Bachchan family.
Her performance in 'Veer Zaara', as the Pakistani lover of an Indian airman (Shah Rukh) languishing in jail, gained her international acclaim.
Along with her beau Ness Wadia and others, Preity Zinta has acquired ownership rights for Kings Eleven, Punjab, the Mohali-based Twenty20 cricket team of the Indian Premier League (IPL).
