    aa gayii yaad sham Dhalte hii
    bujh gayaa dil chiraaGh jalte hii

    khul gaye shahr-e-Gham ke darvaaze
    ek zaraa sii havaa ke chalte hii

    (shahr-e-Gham : city of sufferings)

    kaun thaa tuu ke phir na dekhaa tujhe
    miT gayaa Khvaab aaNkh malte hii

    tuu bhii jaise badal saa jaataa hai
    aks-e-diivaar ke badalte hii

    daulat meiN sukuuuN, husn meiN eesaar ka jazbah
    sau baar tujhe keh tau diyaa, hai ke nahiiN hai

    maiKhaana khule yaa na khule sirf ye dekho
    sheeshon ke khanakhne ki sadaa hai ke nahiiN hai

    ye tau ko’ii Mansoor bataaye tau bataaye
    ke suulii pe taRapne meiN mazaa hai ke nahiiN hai

    aa jaaoge Haalat ki zadd per jo kisi din
    ho jaayega maaloom Khudaa hai ke nahiiN hai

    khaamosh haiN lekin ye Khabar sabko hai Danish
    wo dushman-e-ehbaab-e-wafaa hai ke nahiiN hai

    rij Narayan Chakbast was a famous Urdu poet who died young but left behind a wealth of beautiful verses for generations to treasure. 12th Feb 2006 is his 80th death anniversary. To observe this event, we plan to observe a Chakbast Commemorative Week from 12th Feb-19th Feb 2006. We hope to post articles relevant to his life and poetry as well as his nazms and Ghazals.
