Apart from changing the tournament's format at a meeting in Mumbai, the league's governing council also decided that the franchises would be able to retain four players in their squads - a maximum of three Indians and two foreign players - while the rest would go into the auction scheduled for November.
The tournament will begin five days after the 2011 World Cup final on April 2. The franchises' spending power for the season has been capped at $9 million.

Vettori to lead Royal Challengers in IPL 2011New Zealand skipper Daniel Vettori will lead Royal Challengers Bangalore in the fourth season of IPL 4.
Vettori led a spirited New Zealand to the World Cup 2011 semi-finals, where the Kiwis lost to Sri Lanka . He is one of the most respected captains in the world and was praised for his leadership skills in the World Cup quarter-finals against South Africa , which the Kiwis won by 49 runs.
Royal Challengers was led by Anil Kumble in the last two seasons, when they finished runners-up and the third best team in 2009 and 2010 respectively. Kumble has now moved to the position of the team's 'Chief Mentor' and will form a lethal combination with Vettori.
An elated Royal Challengers chairman Dr Vijay Mallya said, "We are very excited for the upcoming season. Vettori is a highly experienced and respected leader and we hope to ride to the pinnacle of success this IPL under his leadership."...being a human...

Deccan Chargers keen to win more matches at home'Deccan ChargersHyderabad team is keen on winning more matches in the upcoming fourth edition of the Indian Premier League I(IPL) before the home crowd here, its coach Darren Lehmann said in Hyderabad on Tuesday.
"With regard to the number of winning games before the home crowd...We will change that this year. We will play well here and try to win more games here," Lehmann said on the sidelines of a function wherein UltraTech Cement Limited, announced its partnership with Deccan Chargers team.
Through this association, UltraTech Cement will be the official team sponsor of the Hyderabad-based team.
"We want to win more games here because it will help in bringing more crowds to the stadium and we will get more support as there had been no World cup matches in Hyderabad this year. We hope to put much better performance before the home crowd this year," he said....being a human...

squads for IPL-4..A revamped IPL this season
New entrants Sahara Pune Warriors have registered all 30 players for the upcoming edition of Indian Premier League, which start on April 8, while the Shah Rukh Khan co-owned Kolkata Knight Riders, which failed to make it to the semi-finals in the past three editions, have only 20 on their roster.
Defending champions and runners-up Chennai Super Kings and Mumbai Indians have 24 and 23 players registered respectively.
Delhi Daredevils registered 29 players, RCB has 25 players. Kochi Tuskers Kerala, Deccan Chargers and Rajasthan Royals have named 27 players for the cash-rich league.
The Preity Zinta-Ness Wadia co-owned Kings XI Punjab have named 23 players.
While Rajasthan Royals, who were penalised financially, exhausted their full purse, Mumbai Indians had only US $1739 of their US $9 million purse remaining. This is due to Mumbai Indians opting to retain four players --- Sachin Tendulkar, Kieron Pollard, Lasith Malinga and Harbhajan Singh for US$ 4.5 million.
Deccan Chargers had the maximum amount, US $1.49 million, left after the buy-outs, followed by Kings XI Punjab, who had US $1.46 million (approx) left....being a human...

Chennai Super Kings v Kolkata Knight Riders IPL 2011 Match 1 Preview April 8Pitch:
The pitch to be used for this match will be a bit weary considering the number of matches played at this ground during the World Cup and hence will have uneven bounce restricting the stroke play. The spinners are sure to get some extra purchase and as the game progresses the pitch will get even slower. Win the toss bat first.
Gautam Gambhir vs. Ravichandran Ashwin: Though Gambhir is considered to be a good player of the spin he will be up against the crafty Ashwin, one more thing that will also be going against him is the nature of the pitch.
Anirudha Srikkanth vs Jaydev Unadkat: Srikkanth with the bat and Unadkat with the ball will be more than eager to prove their mettle against each other and this ‘youthful’ contest would be one to watch out for.
Abhinav Mukund is a 21-year old aggressive opener from Chennai and has already mustered 3446 runs in first class cricket with an average of 59.41. It would be interesting to see how he fares in this tournament given a chance.
Memorable IPL moment:
A 56-ball 90 run partnership between Brendon McCullum and Brad Hodge in IPL 2009 helped them chase down an imposing 189 against the Super Kings bowling attack and till date it has been the only match in which Kolkata Knight Riders have seen the better of their opponent.
Head to Head
Played 6, Chennai 4, Kolkata 1, NR 1
Suresh Raina (Chennai Super Kings) is by far the leader in terms of runs scored in all the editions of IPL and has scored 1375 runs in 46 matches.
Chennai and Kolkata also incidentally share the lowest run aggregate in any IPL match due to a rain marred game in Kolkata which Chennai won by 2 runs on the basis of Duckworth-Lewis method.
Though both the teams are matched equally on the basis of talent, Chennai might just have that extra firepower to slip this past Kolkata....being a human...

IPL could turn into a Rs 1000 crore brandJust as the World Cup madness was settling in, the Indian Premium League (IPL) is about to begin. As season 4 of IPL starts on Friday, ad rates are skyrocketing thanks to India winning the World Cup.
"Endorsement is not something a cricketer should think about…but I will happily accept what comes and hopefully there are many more to come," said Team India skipper MS Dhoni.
The world cup windfall hasn't yet stopped, and with the IPL following close on its heels, the players are expected to earn at least 30 per cent more. The last remaining ad spots for IPL are reportedly being sold for 20-30 per cent more, with the most recent rates have been quoted as Rs 6.5 lakh per 10 seconds.
Sources say IPL could turn into a Rs 1000 crore brand this edition and skipper Dhoni's Chennai Super Kings is expected to benefit immensely in terms of sponsorships. Gautam Gambhir who had the highest auction price is also expected to turn around KKR's fortunes, while Yuvraj Singh's world cup performance is expected to generate positive interest in the new Pune team.
Experts say even after the World Cup, viewer fatigue is not a worrying aspect anymore.
"First, I want to say, there is no such thing 'too much cricket' anywhere. There is a huge high after the World Cup...they want to see Dhoni play again, want to see Sehwag play again, want to see Zaheer play again," said commentator Harsha Bhogle.
This is also the first IPL without Lalit Modi, whose persona was also a major marketing point. But marketers say despite the controversies, the sponsorships have been atleast 30 per cent higher than last year and the world cup is now an icing on the cake.
"I think brands that missed out on the bandwagon will now see an opportunity and will want to associate in whatever way they can," said Melroy D'souza of PMG Sports.
So everyone is gearing up for another cricketing extravaganza....being a human...

Dhoni's Kings fired up to face Gambhir's KnightsIt will be a classic case of 'friends turning into foes' when Mahendra Singh Dhoni's Chennai Super Kings (CSK) clash with Gautam Gambhir led Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) in the opening match of the IPL on Friday, less than a week after the duo guided India to their historic World Cup triumph in Mumbai.
As the cash-rich Twenty20 cricketing extravaganza gets underway at the MA Chidambaram Stadium, it will be the beginning of new era sans Lalit Modi, who was the face of the event during the first three editions.
Also this will be the first time that the league will feature 10 teams with the inclusion of Pune Warriors and Kochi Tuskers Kerala.
It will be there for all to see how the BCCI organises an event where Modi used to have a final say in every aspect.
The former IPL commissioner and vice-president of BCCI has since then been suspended and now has taken refuge in London after the cricket board pressed numerous charges of corruption against him....being a human...

Leading IPL side is big responsibility: YuvrajStar batsman Yuvraj Singh , who played a key role in India's World Cup win, said leading new IPL entrants Pune Warriors is big responsibility but he is excited to take up the challenge.
"I am looking forward to having an exciting time playing in the IPL. Responsibilities are more, no doubt," Yuvraj said after paying obeisance at the place of his spiritual Guru Baba Ajit Singh in Punjab's Fatehgarh Sahib.
"Puree jaan laga key khelengey (We will give our best)," the 29-year-old added.
yuvraj had skippered Kings XI Punjab in the first two editions and played under Sri Lanka's Kumar Sangakkara in the previous edition.
Now that both Yuvraj and Sangakkara are no more part of the Punjab side, he was asked to rate the Punjab side.
Yuvraj said it was still a good side with players such as Adam Gilchrist , David Hussey Praveen Kumar and Piyush Chawla in the squad.
After reaching his hometown in Chandigarh on Thursday, Yuvarj and his mother Shabnam visited Hansali and few other Gurudwaras....being a human...

IPL-4 gets off to a thunderous start in ChennaiAs the fireworks display peppered the night sky with brilliant hues here on Friday, a patch of green once again captured the nation's attention and imagination.
Though the World Cup got over just a few days ago, a packed M.A. Chidambaram stadium lapped up ałl that the fourth edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL-4) had to offer as the mega sporting event got off to a thunderous start.
At the opening ceremony, Bollywood was out in full strength, led by its Badshah, Shahrukh Khan.
The master entertainer sent the crowd into raptures when he launched into peppy Tamil numbers along with actor Shriya Saran.
Shankar Narayanan, who has been to every IPL match that took place in Chennai, screamed, “I never expected Shahrukh to perform to Tamil numbers. Kalakkitta maamu [You rocked dude]!”
Outside the stadium, cricket fanatics such as S. Srinivas (13) were waiting to get their faces painted. Being a Kolkata Knight Riders supporter, he kept saying to all the paraphernalia sellers, “I'm not CSK!”
Explaining the reason, he said: “I like Gambhir. So I shifted loyalties.”
His mom Vanitha, a die-hard CSK supporter, cannot forgive Srinivas. “He's a traitor,” she said....being a human...

Chennai Super Kings beat Kolkata Knight Riders in IPL-IV openerAnirudha Srikkanth's fifty and useful contributions from Suresh Raina and M.S. Dhoni helped Chennai Super Kings beat Kolkata Knight Riders by two runs in the opening match of the fourth edition of the Indian Premier League at M.A. Chidambaram Stadium on Friday..
Reigning champions Chennai Super Kings began their title defence with a thrilling two-run win over Kolkata Knight Riders as the fourth edition of the Indian Premier League got off to a sensational start here on Friday.
Chennai rode on opener Srikkanth Anirudha’s 64-run knock and his two partnerships with Suresh Raina (33) and Mahendra Singh Dhoni (29) to post 153 for four after electing to bat.
Their spinners bowled well and they restricted Kolkata to 151 for seven at the M.A. Chidamabaram stadium.
Kolkata had lost five wickets at 120 by the 17th over, but Manoj Tiwary (27 off 15) played a sensational cameo to bring them back in the match.
However, in the end Chennai won the battle of nerves as Tim Soutee gave away just six runs in the final over when Kolkata needed nine to win.
Jacques Kallis played a brilliant 54-run knock at the top but it was Chennai’s day out there as their spinners bowled well under pressure.

Rock on, Tuskers
One lakh twenty thousand watts of thrilling sound is going to burst forth at the much awaited opening match of IPL in the city. It's going to be cricket and great music as home team Kochi Tuskers Kerala (KTK) vs. Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) face each other on April 9. The bands are ready and raring to go.
Savio Mendez co-coordinating the music and in charge of stadium entertainment says that he is there to provide peppy and energising music, ‘something different and special.' And so for the event he has lined up five bands to play and entertain in the four hours of action where the crowd will get an ace match to watch and great music to enjoy. His music group, Free Formation comprising Carl Frenais, Sonu and himself has made the IPL tune and will play along with the cheers of a four or a six.
He says that his brief was to ensure great music for the young and so he charted a plan to have the best of bands from across Kerala. “Kochi and Kerala have the best bands. It is the home ground for such music,” says Savio adding that out of the five bands two will play compositions of their own. To attract the youth and to enjoy the music the stadium gates will be opened at 4.30 p.m. and the bands will play till the official opening.
The first band to strike up will be the five piece band -The Backwater Blues, from the city. They will play Pink Floyd - Coming Back to Life - followed by their own composition, The Roar of the Tuskers. The bands are so charged with enthusiasm that The Back Water Blues has created a new genre called Raga Blues, which you will get to enjoy at the event. The band comprises Rizwan Razack, vocalist, Ajoy Jose on keyboard, Vimal Nazar guitar, Renish Basheer bass guitar and Bijoy Joey on the drums....being a human...

Kochi Tuskers Kerala v Royal Challengers Bangalore IPL 2011 previewPitch:
The Kochi track has been a batsman’s paradise till now, out of the 6 matches played here 5 times a team has scored in excess of 300 in an ODI. Anything between 180-190 would be a match winning total for the team batting first.
Mahela Jayawardene vs Daniel Vettori- Both the players are considered to be middle overs specialist for their national teams respectively. It would be fascinating to see how Jayawardene negotiates and fares against Vettori.
Sreesanth vs Virat Kohli – They were with each other for the better part of the last two months leading their side to World Cup glory however cometh this match there won’t be any love gained between these two as both of them will go hard against each other with their over aggression.
Mayank Agarwal is a 20 year old opening batsman from Karnataka. Though he hasn’t had first class outings for Karnataka he scored an aggressive 160 for the Indian U-19 side against Australia. Has the potential to become one of the success stories of this IPL...being a human...

Deccan Chargers v Rajasthan Royals IPL 2011 previewPitch:
A batting track through and through, the last ODI played here between Indian and Australia produced 697 runs in around 100 overs. Anything less than 180 on such a pitch would not be safe. Again its a win the toss, bat first pitch.
Kumar Sangakkara vs Shane Warne- Sangakkara has hit a purple patch of late and being such a crafty player of spin bowling his encounter with the guile and experience of Shane Warne would be one to watch out for.
Dale Steyn vs Swapnil Asnodkar – This battle may seem a mismatch on paper but Asnodkar on Indian tracks can be explosive in the beginning and Steyn will do well to not to get complacent against him.
Deepak Chahar is a 18 year old fast bowler from Rajasthan and has had a dream Ranji debut season picking up 40 wickets in 9 matches at an average of 21.17.
Memorable IPL moment:
Yusuf Pathan smashed a 28 ball 61 in the first edition of the IPL chasing down a mammoth 215 runs with one ball to spare for Rajasthan after Andrew Symonds earlier scored 117 off 53 balls. Sadly both of them are no longer playing for their respective franchisees.
Matches 6, Rajasthan 5, Deccan 1
Shane Warne has been the highest wicket taker for the Royals with 45 wickets from 43 matches so far.
Incidentally the highest run chase in an IPL match has been done by Rajasthan Royals against Deccan Chargers in the first edition when they chased down 215 runs off 20 overs.
A very close match considering the fact that both the teams would be trying to get their final eleven in a proper shape. Expect Rajasthan to pull this one though very narrowly....being a human...
