Australia looked clinical against Canada in their last outing on Wednesday though their bowling looked a bit rusty. Their openers Shane Watson and Brad Haddin found rhythm and blazed through the Canadian bowling attack after their initial period of tentativeness. Their middle order though hasnít been tested so far by quality bowling and the form of their skipper Ricky Ponting going into the match would be a huge concern.
Michael Husseyís inclusion into the team has bolstered the middle order and his experience would be very critical once Australia starts playing Ďbiggerí matches.
The new ball bowling hasnít been particularly impressive from the Aussies so far and they were hammered by an unheralded Hiral Patel of Canada in their last match. However the bowling attack led by Brett Lee initiated a collapse in the Canadian middle order later in the match. One more positive from their last match has to be Jason Krejzaís bowling who was so far disappointing in his previous matches.
Pakistanís batting in their last outing against Zimbabwe appeared a bit rusty and the form of Ahmed Shehzad will be a huge concern for them. Shehzad so far has managed to score a personal best of 13 runs from his first five matches. Pakistan is still heavily counting on the experience of Younus Khan and Misbah ul Haq during the middle overs and a good stage set by them can be more than manipulated by the likes of Umar Akmal, Shahid Afridi & co.
Bowling has always been the stronghold for any Pakistani side competing in a World Cup and this time also the case holds true. It is their bowling attack led by Umar Gul and Shahid Afridi which has looked menacing so far this World Cup. Shahid Afridi has discovered a rhythm of his own by already capturing 16 wickets in 5 matches including two five wicket hauls and also happens to be the top wicket taker of this World Cup so far.
It will be interesting to see whether Shoaib Akhtar makes a return to this side following his exclusion from the last match owing to a poor bowling performance against New Zealand.
Why watch this match?
A clash between the defending champions and the dark horse of this tournament would be one to watch out for simply because of the amount of individual brilliance the players of both the teams have got.
Players to look out for:
Ahmed Shehzad hasnít really performed to his capabilities so far this World Cup. The pace of the Aussie attack may just be the thing he needs to catapult his and his teamís fortunes...being a human...
