Arsenal are reported to be in talks with former goalkeeper Jens Lehmann over a short-term contract to ease the club's injury crisis.

Sky Sports News claims the Gunners are now discussing terms with Lehmann, 41, who retired from the game in 2010 after a two-year spell with Stuttgart.

Arsene Wenger has requested permission to make an emergency signing after Wojciech Szczesny, Lukasz Fabianski and Vito Mannone all sustained injuries, leaving Manuel Almunia as his only senior goalkeeper.

Lehmann, who is spending six weeks with Arsenal as he earns his coaching badges, told Bild this weekend: "I am in London and so far have heard nothing of such plans, but you never know."

Lehmann played for Arsenal between 2003 and 2008 but departed after losing his place to Almunia. The pair had a difficult relationship as Lehmann was repeatedly critical of Almunia during that time.
