Full Highlights Australia Vs Zimbabwe,World Cup Highlights,21 February 2011,4th Match
Australia 262 for 6 (Watson 79, Clarke 58*, Mpofu 2-58) beat Zimbabwe 171 (Cremer 37, Johnson 4-19, Tait 2-34) by 91 runs
Australia came into the ICC Cricket World Cup 2011 with a huge thumping of England at home after a disappointing Ashes loss. But they have looked extremely rusty so far, having lost both their warm-up games.
They’ll be looking at their first match against Zimbabwe as a way out of the present strangle around their performance. There will be some big players eyeing big runs against Zimbabwe.
For one, Cameron White has not even been in the same zip-code as “runs” in his last few series’. He really is very vital to this Australian side that is leaving too much to do at the top for the likes of Shane Watson and Michael Clarke. Their middle order has been virtually non-existent and it may finally hit the Australian think-tank that Steven Smith at no.7 is almost becoming a vulnerability with his average batting performances. Perhaps it’s time for both Haddin and Paine to feature in that team, either one of them as a pure batsman.
Their bowling looks good to go, although their over dependence on pace might cost them valuable matches. But against this Zimbabwe side, they will have their tails up and will look to demolish that top order with their pace.
Zimbabwe have a good mix of youth and experience among their ranks and they will have a lot to prove- to their people and board back home, as well as to the ICC who have contemplated dropping the “minnow” sides for their next edition of the World Cup.
So, with the ICC Cricket World Cup 2011 being possibly their last cup for quite a few years, Zimbabwe will want to do their cause some good after seeing fellow associates like Kenya and Canada crumbling without a trace.
Australia for the win, though.
