Veteran Sri Lankan bowler, Chaminda Vaas, has failed to make his place in the main squad that was announced ahead of the ICC Cricket World Cup 2011.

His exclusion from Sri Lanka’s World Cup squad disappointed many of his fans. This thing has forced the 36-year-old player to think seriously about taking retirement from the limited-over cricket game. He has already taken retirement from Test cricket.

No doubt, Chaminda Vaas is unhappy for not being selected in the nation squad. He was picked in the 30-man provisional squad. Obviously, it raised his hope to get included in the 15-man squad also. But selectors didn’t include him in the shorter list.

It is yet to know the reason of not taking him in the Sri Lankan squad. May be, selectors found him not fit and ineligible to play in the ODI format. He set his mind to take retirement after the World Cup. Chaminda Vaas has also admitted that his form was not good enough to get him selected.

He was part of the 1996 Sri Lankan squad that won the ICC World Cup for the first time in 1996. It is sad to see that he will not be in the part of Sri Lankan squad in 2011 World Cup.

It is true that Chaminda Vaas is not in his prime form. He is now in his late thirties. He cannot play like his past. So, it should be better if he teaches the newcomer to bring the world cup once again back in Sri Lanka, one of the co-cost countries of ICC World Cup 2011.
