IPL auction list reduced to 350With only eight days to go for the IPL 2011, the IPL has removed the names of 56 players, thereby reducing the total players in the pool to 350. The IPL auction is scheduled to be held on 8th and 9th January 2011 in Bangalore.
The IPL had earlier announced a list of 416 players out of which 21 players were placed in the top band of $400,000. Sourav Ganguly, who was earlier placed in the $200,000 price band, has increased his base price to $400,000 while VVS Laxman too has raised his base price from the $200,000 to $300,000.
It is to be noted that the players are free to choose their base prices but these prices may not be the final prices for which the franchises would buy the players. If a player attracts more demand, then he may end up being bought for a price many times more than his base price.
Also to be noted is the fact that big names like Sachin Tendulkar, MS Dhoni and ten other players have been retained by their franchises and therefore will be out of the auction pool. As a result, these franchises will have a reduced purse when compared to other franchises that have their full $900,000 to spend at the IPL auction....being a human...
