TV producers send mixed signals, no solution yet

Mumbai: Mixed signals are coming from television serial producers in the continuing stand-off between them and the workers.
Even as some producers indicated on Friday that they were ready to smoke the peace pipe, there were others who threatened the striking workers that they would be replaced with fresh recruits if they did not return to the sets immediately.
Federation of Western India Cine Employees (FWICE) general secretary Dinesh Chaturvedi said, “Some people from Dheeraj Kumar’s
Creative Eye have threatened our workers. They have been asked to return to work, failing which they will be replaced by outsiders.”
Members of J D Majithia’s production house, too, have said the same thing apparently. But, at the same time, Chaturvedi has been getting feelers from the core committee of the television producers’ organisation, asking him to discuss revised rates.
The state government on Friday also indicated that it was keeping a watch on the unfolding drama; an inspector from the state labour department met FWICE members. “An inspector from the labour department met us and told us that the labour commissioner would soon calla meeting of workers and producers at its office in Mumbai Central,’’ Chaturvedi said. The meeting is likely to take place in three days.
    Reruns take
    toll on TRPs
The first indication of viewers giving the thumbs-down to entertainment channels came with reruns becoming the staple fare. A study by aMap (Audience Measurement Television Analytics Ltd) shows all major entertainment channels’ TRPs dropping by between 35% and 55% over the past three days. The overall rating for general entertainment channels last month was about 60%. This has now dropped to 41%. About 61% of viewers are watching sports channels and about 13% are watching movie channels throughout the day. There is also a shift in the audience from the popular channels to the not-sopopular ones. TNN
