"Once upon a time"-- of all the good days in the year, on Christmas Eve"-- old Scrooge sat busy in his counting-house."

    HAPPY CHRISTMAS

...DESIRULEZ.. wish you a Happy and Joyful Christmas

With the passing of loved ones and the many men and women we have fighting around the world, many of us will not be able to spend Christmas with everyone in our family. So, I thought it would be nice to have a thread where we can discuss those who we will be remembering this Christmas..

"Christmas is the season for kindling the fire of hospitality in the hall, the genial flame of charity in the heart."
Enjoy this Christmas with peace and joy.

Let us remember that the Christmas heart is a giving heart, a wide open heart that thinks of others first. The birth of the baby Jesus stands as the most significant event in all history, because it has meant the pouring into a sick world the healing medicine of love which has transformed all manner of hearts for almost two thousand years... Underneath all the bulging bundles is this beating Christmas heart."

"Christmas! The very word brings joy to our hearts. No matter how we may dread the rush, the long Christmas lists for gifts and cards to be bought and given-when Christmas Day comes there is still the same warm feeling we had as children, the same warmth that enfolds our hearts and our homes."

"Christmas is not a time nor a season, but a state of mind. To cherish peace and goodwill, to be plenteous in mercy, is to have the real spirit of Christmas."

I'm dreaming of a white Christmas,
Just like the ones I used to know,
    Where the tree tops glisten
    And children listen
To hear sleigh bells in the snow."

The word Christmas originated as a compound meaning "Christ's Mass". It is derived from the Middle English Christemasse and Old English Cristes mæsse, a phrase first recorded in 1038. "Cristes" is from Greek Christos and "mæsse" is from Latin missa (the holy mass). In Greek, the letter Χ (chi), is the first letter of Christ, and it, or the similar Roman letter X, has been used as an abbreviation for Christ since the mid-16th century. Hence, Xmas is sometimes used as an abbreviation for Christmas.

"Until one feels the spirit of Christmas, there is no Christmas. All else is outward display-so much tinsel and decorations. For it isn't the holly, it isn't the snow. It isn't the tree not the firelight's glow. It's the warmth that comes to the hearts of men when the Christmas spirit returns again."

    MERRY CHRISTMAS

    TO YOU ALL

    Default Fantastic Christmas Tradition Ideas

Family Traditions are an entertaining way to strengthen family relationships and create long lasting memories. If you are looking for family traditions to do with your family every year, here are ten fantastic ideas for family and / or holiday traditions. Enjoy!

Take a Tour of the Christmas Lights

Every Christmas Eve (or close to Christmas eve) drive around town and view everyone's Christmas lights. This is especially enjoyable for younger children and is a great family tradition.

Watch Home Videos on Christmas Eve

Obviously, this one only works if you have old home videos to watch! It makes for a fun family tradition to go down memory lane together. If you can afford a video camera, I highly recommend starting this family tradition. It's a fun but relaxing family activity. Perhaps pop popcorn, or eat Christmas cookies and/or drink hot chocolate as well.

Buy Christmas Gifts for a Needy Family or Child

This is a wonderful family tradition where the children learn about service. Many communities have programs where you adopt-a-child or family and purchase gifts. Perhaps each child can buy (or select a gift to buy) for a child their age. The kids will enjoy getting to "shop" for another kid's Christmas.

Fill Christmas Shoeboxes for Children in Other Countries

This is a super family tradition to consider as well. It needs to be done early though, sometimes in October. There are several types of shoebox Christmas programs.

Buy New Pajamas for Everyone in the Family for Christmas Eve

If you can afford it, get new pajamas for everyone for Christmas every year. (Perhaps this is the only time each year that you buy pajamas.) This is probably more fun for families of mostly girls, as older teen boys could probably care less about pajamas!

    Have Waffles for Breakfast

Every year at Christmas, have waffles, or another fun breakfast food. This tradition might be hard to maintain, however, if you visit other families or travel at Christmas.

    Go Christmas Caroling Together

If everyone is musical, or even if they aren't, this is a fun activity. It's a little cheesy, but hey, it will create memories. I recommend going to to friends' and family home and surprise them by singing

Play a Board Game on Christmas Eve

Enjoy family time together on Christmas Eve and play a board game. I recommend Monoply, Scattegories, or Beyond Balderdash. It will definitely create fun memories.

    Make Homemade Christmas Ornaments Together

This is another great family activity that will leave you with a nice memento to cherish. Visit a craft store and buy ornaments (along with paint and glitter) to decorate. When the kids reach college age, there will be a nice little collection of ornaments! You could also visit a paint-your-own-pottery business. Google "paint your own pottery" and your city's name for the nearest location. You could paint them there and avoid the mess at home.

Watch a Christmas Movie Together on Christmas Eve

This one is easy and entertaining. Every year on Christmas eve, the family watches a Christmas movie together. I personally recommend "The Christmas Story" where the little boy wants a bb gun for Christmas. Another funny one to watch is "The Santa Clause."

    Stuff Stockings

This is probably best for older kids and teens. Every year, have other family members stuff the stockings of the other kids and parents as well. Mom or Dad will have to take the kids to Wal-Mart or another store to find stocking stuffers. Obviously this is best after the kids know that Santa is in the heart of everyone. It's a wonderful tradition. Perhaps when the kids get older they can try to "out-do" everyone by purchasing gag gifts online, etc.

    Bake Cookies Together Every Year

Another tradition is to bake cookies together, and give them as gifts. It will be fun for kids of all ages!

Where did the Christmas tree tradition originate? What you think you know may not be true.

Christmas trees are widely assumed to be an old German myth associated with fertility, but that's not the case, says anthropologist Rolf Bredich, senior honorary research fellow at Victoria University's Stout Research Centre.

There's truth in the German origins, though. They date back to an area of eastern France, then in Germany, in 1605. A traveller, from an unknown area, reported back that at Christmas time people brought trees into their rooms.

The tradition caught on, with people bringing in trees and adorning them with roses, colourful paper and sugar.

Lights first appeared on Christmas trees about a century later, as candles and the superstition of the 12 nights of Christmas began.

Over the 12 nights, people were not allowed to work and did not go outdoors. The tree served a purpose of bringing some green life inside when outside was cold and covered in snow. "Children were allowed to plunder what was on the tree," Dr Bredich says.

Christmas trees were once the domain of nobility and Queen Victoria's German husband, Prince Albert, brought the first recorded tree to Britain.

The idea soon worked its way down through the class system, and on to the United States, where the notion of Santa Claus – and presents – became attached.

"The idea of the Christmas tree has nothing to do with Christianity," Dr Bredich says.

Default Christmas Carol Lyrics - English

    1.We Three Kings

We three kings of Orient are
    Bearing gifts we traverse afar
Field and fountain, moor and mountain
    Following yonder star

O.... Star of wonder, star of night
    Star with royal beauty bright
    Westward leading, still proceeding
Guide us to thy Perfect Light

Born a King on Bethlehem's plain
Gold I bring to crown Him again
    King forever, ceasing never
    Over us all to rein

O.... Star of wonder, star of night
    Star with royal beauty bright
    Westward leading, still proceeding
Guide us to Thy perfect light

    Frankincense to offer have I
    Incense owns a Deity nigh
Pray'r and praising, all men raising
    Worship Him, God most high

O Star of wonder, star of night
    Star with royal beauty bright
    Westward leading, still proceeding
Guide us to Thy perfect light

Myrrh is mine, its bitter perfume
Breathes of life of gathering gloom
    Sorrowing, sighing, bleeding, dying
    Sealed in the stone-cold tomb

O Star of wonder, star of night
    Star with royal beauty bright
    Westward leading, still proceeding
Guide us to Thy perfect light

    Glorious now behold Him arise
    King and God and Sacrifice
    Alleluia, Alleluia
    Earth to heav'n replies

O Star of wonder, star of night
    Star with royal beauty bright
    Westward leading, still proceeding
Guide us to Thy perfect light

    2. Joy to the World

Joy to the world, the Lord is come!
    Let earth receive her King;
Let every heart prepare Him room,
    And Heaven and nature sing,
    And Heaven and nature sing,
And Heaven, and Heaven, and nature sing.

Joy to the world, the Savior reigns!
    Let men their songs employ;
While fields and floods, rocks, hills and plains
    Repeat the sounding joy,
    Repeat the sounding joy,
    Repeat, repeat, the sounding joy.

No more let sins and sorrows grow,
    Nor thorns infest the ground;
He comes to make His blessings flow
Far as the curse is found,
Far as the curse is found,
Far as, far as, the curse is found.

He rules the world with truth and grace,
    And makes the nations prove
    The glories of His righteousness,
    And wonders of His love,
    And wonders of His love,
And wonders, wonders, of His love.

    ==============================================

    3. Hark the herald

    Hark the herald angels sing
    "Glory to the newborn King!
Peace on earth and mercy mild
    God and sinners reconciled"
    Joyful, all ye nations rise
Join the triumph of the skies
    With the angelic host proclaim:
    "Christ is born in Bethlehem"
    Hark! The herald angels sing
    "Glory to the newborn King!"

    Christ by highest heav'n adored
    Christ the everlasting Lord!
Late in time behold Him come
    Offspring of a Virgin's womb
Veiled in flesh the Godhead see
    Hail the incarnate Deity
Pleased as man with man to dwell
    Jesus, our Emmanuel
    Hark! The herald angels sing
    "Glory to the newborn King!"

Hail the heav'n-born Prince of Peace!
    Hail the Son of Righteousness!
Light and life to all He brings
Ris'n with healing in His wings
Mild He lays His glory by
Born that man no more may die
Born to raise the sons of earth
Born to give them second birth
    Hark! The herald angels sing
    "Glory to the newborn King!"

    4. Deck the Halls

Deck the halls with boughs of holly,
Fa la la la la, la la la la.
Tis the season to be jolly,
Fa la la la la, la la la la.

Don we now our gay apparel,
Fa la la, la la la, la la la.
Troll the ancient Yule tide carol,
Fa la la la la, la la la la.

See the blazing Yule before us,
Fa la la la la, la la la la.
Strike the harp and join the chorus.
Fa la la la la, la la la la.

    Follow me in merry measure,
Fa la la la la, la la la la.
While I tell of Yule tide treasure,
Fa la la la la, la la la la.

Fast away the old year passes,
Fa la la la la, la la la la.
Hail the new, ye lads and lasses,
Fa la la la la, la la la la.

    Sing we joyous, all together,
Fa la la la la, la la la la.
Heedless of the wind and weather,
Fa la la la la, la la la la.

    ==================================================

    5. O Come All Ye Faithful

    O Come All Ye Faithful
    Joyful and triumphant,
O come ye, O come ye to Bethlehem.
    Come and behold Him,
    Born the King of Angels;
O come, let us adore Him,
O come, let us adore Him,
O come, let us adore Him,
    Christ the Lord.

    O Sing, choirs of angels,
    Sing in exultation,
Sing all that hear in heaven God's holy word.
    Give to our Father glory in the Highest;
O come, let us adore Him,
O come, let us adore Him,
O come, let us adore Him,
    Christ the Lord.

All Hail! Lord, we greet Thee,
    Born this happy morning,
O Jesus! for evermore be Thy name adored.
    Word of the Father, now in flesh appearing;
O come, let us adore Him,
O come, let us adore Him,
O come, let us adore Him,
    Christ the Lord.

    6. Silent Night

    Silent night, holy night
All is calm, all is bright
Round yon Virgin Mother and Child
Holy Infant so tender and mild
    Sleep in heavenly peace
    Sleep in heavenly peace

    Silent night, holy night!
    Shepherds quake at the sight
    Glories stream from heaven afar
    Heavenly hosts sing Alleluia!
    Christ, the Saviour is born
    Christ, the Saviour is born

    Silent night, holy night
Son of God, love's pure light
Radiant beams from Thy holy face
With the dawn of redeeming grace
    Jesus, Lord, at Thy birth
Jesus, Lord, at Thy birth "

    ================================================

    7. The First Noel

The First Noel, the Angels did say
Was to certain poor shepherds in fields as they lay
In fields where they lay keeping their sheep
On a cold winter's night that was so deep.
    Noel, Noel, Noel, Noel
Born is the King of Israel!

They looked up and saw a star
Shining in the East beyond them far
And to the earth it gave great light
And so it continued both day and night.
    Noel, Noel, Noel, Noel
Born is the King of Israel!

And by the light of that same star
Three Wise men came from country far
To seek for a King was their intent
And to follow the star wherever it went.
    Noel, Noel, Noel, Noel
Born is the King of Israel!

This star drew nigh to the northwest
O'er Bethlehem it took its rest
And there it did both Pause and stay
Right o'er the place where Jesus lay.
    Noel, Noel, Noel, Noel
Born is the King of Israel!

Then entered in those Wise men three
    Full reverently upon their knee
And offered there in His presence
Their gold and myrrh and frankincense.
    Noel, Noel, Noel, Noel
Born is the King of Israel!

Then let us all with one accord
Sing praises to our heavenly Lord
That hath made Heaven and earth of nought
And with his blood mankind has bought.
    Noel, Noel, Noel, Noel
Born is the King of Israel!

    8. O Little Town of Bethlehem

    O little town of Bethlehem
How still we see thee lie
Above thy deep and dreamless sleep
    The silent stars go by
Yet in thy dark streets shineth
    The everlasting Light
The hopes and fears of all the years
    Are met in thee tonight

For Christ is born of Mary
    And gathered all above
While mortals sleep, the angels keep
    Their watch of wondering love
    O morning stars together
    Proclaim the holy birth
And praises sing to God the King
And Peace to men on earth

    How silently, how silently
    The wondrous gift is given!
So God imparts to human hearts
    The blessings of His heaven.
No ear may his His coming,
But in this world of sin,
Where meek souls will receive him still,
    The dear Christ enters in.

    O holy Child of Bethlehem
    Descend to us, we pray
Cast out our sin and enter in
    Be born to us today
    We hear the Christmas angels
    The great glad tidings tell
O come to us, abide with us
    Our Lord Emmanuel

    ================================================

    9. Away in a Manger

    Away in a manger,
    No crib for His bed
    The little Lord Jesus
    Laid down His sweet head

The stars in the bright sky
    Looked down where He lay
    The little Lord Jesus
    Asleep on the hay

    The cattle are lowing
    The poor Baby wakes
    But little Lord Jesus
    No crying He makes

    I love Thee, Lord Jesus
    Look down from the sky
    And stay by my side,
    'Til morning is nigh.

    Be near me, Lord Jesus,
    I ask Thee to stay
    Close by me forever
    And love me I pray

    Bless all the dear children
    In Thy tender care
    And take us to heaven
    To live with Thee there

    10. Go tell it to the Mountain

Go tell it on the mountain,
    Over the hills and everywhere,
Go tell it on the mountain,
    Our Jesus Christ is born.

    When I was a seeker
I sought both night and day,
I asked the Lord to help me,
And he showed me the way.

Go tell it on the mountain,
    Over the hills and everywhere,
Go tell it on the mountain,
    Our Jesus Christ is born.

    He made me a watchman
    Upon a city wall,
And if I am a Christian,
I am the least of all.

Go tell it on the mountain,
    Over the hills and everywhere,
Go tell it on the mountain,
    Our Jesus Christ is born.

    12. Jingle Bells

    Dashing through the snow
In a one horse open sleigh
    O'er the fields we go
    Laughing all the way
    Bells on bob tails ring
    Making spirits bright
What fun it is to laugh and sing
    A sleighing song tonight

    Oh, jingle bells, jingle bells
    Jingle all the way
Oh, what fun it is to ride
In a one horse open sleigh
    Jingle bells, jingle bells
    Jingle all the way
Oh, what fun it is to ride
In a one horse open sleigh

    A day or two ago
    I thought I'd take a ride
    And soon Miss Fanny Bright
    Was seated by my side
The horse was lean and lank
    Misfortune seemed his lot
We got into a drifted bank
    And then we got upsot

    Oh, jingle bells, jingle bells
    Jingle all the way
Oh, what fun it is to ride
In a one horse open sleigh
    Jingle bells, jingle bells
    Jingle all the way
Oh, what fun it is to ride
In a one horse open sleigh yeah

    Jingle bells, jingle bells
    Jingle all the way
Oh, what fun it is to ride
In a one horse open sleigh
    Jingle bells, jingle bells
    Jingle all the way
Oh, what fun it is to ride
In a one horse open sleigh

    13. Little Drummer Boy

Come they told me, pa rum pum pum pum
A new born King to see, pa rum pum pum pum
Our finest gifts we bring, pa rum pum pum pum
To lay before the King, pa rum pum pum pum,
rum pum pum pum, rum pum pum pum,

So to honor Him, pa rum pum pum pum,
    When we come.

Little Baby, pa rum pum pum pum
I am a poor boy too, pa rum pum pum pum
I have no gift to bring, pa rum pum pum pum
That's fit to give the King, pa rum pum pum pum,
rum pum pum pum, rum pum pum pum,

Shall I play for you, pa rum pum pum pum,
    On my drum?

Mary nodded, pa rum pum pum pum
The ox and lamb kept time, pa rum pum pum pum
I played my drum for Him, pa rum pum pum pum
I played my best for Him, pa rum pum pum pum,
rum pum pum pum, rum pum pum pum,

Then He smiled at me, pa rum pum pum pum
    Me and my drum.

    14. Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer

    Rudolph, the red-nosed reindeer
    had a very shiny nose.
And if you ever saw him,
you would even say it glows.

    All of the other reindeer
used to laugh and call him names.
    They never let poor Rudolph
    join in any reindeer games.

    Then one foggy Christmas Eve
    Santa came to say:
"Rudolph with your nose so bright,
won't you guide my sleigh tonight?"

Then all the reindeer loved him
as they shouted out with glee,
    Rudolph the red-nosed reindeer,
    you'll go down in history!

    ===================================================

    15. White Christmas

I'm dreaming of a white Christmas
Just like the ones I used to know
    Where the treetops glisten,
    and children listen
To hear sleigh bells in the snow

I'm dreaming of a white Christmas
With every Christmas card I write
May your days be merry and bright
And may all your Christmases be white

I'm dreaming of a white Christmas
With every Christmas card I write
May your days be merry and bright
And may all your Christmases be white

    16. O Holy Night

O holy night! The stars are brightly shining,
It is the night of the dear Saviour's birth.
Long lay the world in sin and error pining.
Till He appeared and the Spirit felt its worth.
A thrill of hope the weary world rejoices,
For yonder breaks a new and glorious morn.
Fall on your knees! Oh, hear the angel voices!
    O night divine, the night when Christ was born;
O night, O holy night, O night divine!
O night, O holy night, O night divine!

Led by the light of faith serenely beaming,
With glowing hearts by His cradle we stand.
O'er the world a star is sweetly gleaming,
Now come the wisemen from out of the Orient land.
    The King of kings lay thus lowly manger;
In all our trials born to be our friends.
He knows our need, our weakness is no stranger,
Behold your King! Before him lowly bend!
Behold your King! Before him lowly bend!

Truly He taught us to love one another,
His law is love and His gospel is peace.
Chains he shall break, for the slave is our brother.
And in his name all oppression shall cease.
Sweet hymns of joy in grateful chorus raise we,
With all our hearts we praise His holy name.
Christ is the Lord! Then ever, ever praise we,
His power and glory ever more proclaim!
His power and glory ever more proclaim!
