South Africa reduce India to 136/9 on day oneThe much-hyped Indian batting line-up could not stand up to its reputation against a solid South African pace attack and were reduced to 136/9 on the rain-affected day one of the first Test match at the SuperSport Park, Centurion.
Resuming the session on 55/3, India lost Laxman (7) and Raina (1) in quick succession. Sachin Tendulkar too followed the duo soon after too leave India at 71/6. Tendulkar scored a brisk 36 runs from 34 balls that included eight fours.
Harbhajan Singh (27) and M S Dhoni then added 39 runs for the seventh wicket to take India past the 100-mark. The partnership ended when some immature running between the wickets cost Harbhajan, his wicket. Morne Morkel then picked up two quick wickets to leave India reeling at 116/9. M S Dhoni, batting on 33 runs, then hit some lusty blows to add 20 runs for the unbroken tenth wicket before bad light stopped the play. Debutant Jaidev Unadkat (1) was batting at the other end.
For South Africa, Dale Steyn (3/34) and Morne Morkel (4/20) picked up seven wickets between themselves but the absence of the third bowler meant that India closed in on the 150-mark too. Lonwabo Tsotsobe had a disappointing outing and leaked 50 runs off his nine overs....being a human...
