The rain gods had the final say clearing the uncertainty over the fate of the five match ODI series between Sri Lanka and West Indies. The series has now been postponed to late January 2011.

There was a lot of confusion following Chris Gayle tweet on Wednesday afternoon that the series has been called off and the team was heading back home. While Sri Lanka had earlier denied this, the West Indies did not officially comment on the issue. After its discussion with the West Indies board, the Sri Lankan Cricket officially announced the decision just before the commencement of the first match today at Hambantota.
It is to be noted that the rain had interrupted the whole of the Test Series that ended in 0-0. Sri Lanka was on the receiving end of this as this pushed them down to the fifth spot in the ICC Test rankings. The West Indies team would also be disappointed as this was their last ODI engagement before the World Cup begins in February 2011. If the rumours are to be believed, the rescheduled series would be a three-match affair.
