News of the World to depose against Pakistan playersThe ‘News of the World’ tabloid will join the hearing against three Pakistan players accused of spot-fixing during recently concluded series against England.
The News of the World had unleashed a storm in world cricket after it had unearthed a spot-fixing scandal involving Pakistani players Mohammad Asif, Salman Butt and Mohammad Amir. The hearing will take place in Doha, Qatar early next year, from 6 to 11 January.
The tabloid will not be allowed to post any news relating to this hearing during this period. It had broken this news when the fourth Test between England and Pakistan was underway at Lord’s. An alleged fixer named Mazhar Majeed was secretly filmed by a reporter posing as a member of a betting syndicate.
ICC’s anti-corruption unit (ACSU) swung into action along with Scotland Yard after receiving the evidence and the players were provisionally suspended immediately. ICC has already dismissed the appeal of Amir and Butt while Asif did not appeal against the suspension....being a human...
