Remember not too long ago we had reported that the High Court had ordered the makers of the film Knock Out to share their script and screenplay with 20th Century Fox after a petition was filed by the studio stating that Knock Out is a blatant copy of their Hollywood film Phone Booth starring Colin Farrell.

The case so far in question cropped up when 20th Century Fox moved the Bombay High Court alleging a copyright infringement, and seeking an injunction on the release of Sohail Maklai's Knock Out. The basis for this petition being that the film Knock Out is a blatant copy of their Hollywood film Phone Booth.

Roshan Dalvi, the presiding judge watched both the movies, Knock Out and Phone Booth on Wednesday and ruled in the favour of 20th Century Fox on Thursday, thereby putting a stay on the release of the film.

It was then that the producers of Knock Out approached a division bench of the HC against the order of a single judge. After hearing the case for about an hour and a half, the division bench comprising of Chief Justice Mohit Shah and Justice D Y Chandrachud, in turn, put a stay on the order passed by the single judge.

The bench though made it clear that the relief granted to them was on condition that the producer deposits Rs 1.5 crore with the High Court by October 19 and that they maintain accounts related to business done by the movie. This in essence means that the film will now release as per schedule, but the original case about the infringement of copyright will continue.
