Amitabh Bachchan spins the charkha at Gandhi’s ashram
Barefoot and clad in khadi
At Mahatma Gandhi’s Sabarmati Ashram in Gujarat, Bollywood star Amitabh Bachchan tried his hand at the charkha while shooting for a campaign as the tourism ambassador of Gujarat.
On Monday afternoon, Mr. Bachchan entered the quiet and serene ashram barefoot. He was dressed in a white khadi kurta-pyjama and a white shawl. During the course of three hours the actor spent in the ashram, he took photographs, shot for the campaign, spun the charkha, scribbled notes and even took a brief tour of Sabarmati river project from the ashram side.
In the visitors’ book, Big B jotted down: “An amazing experience in this great place.”
Mr. Bachchan later tweeted about his experience.
“Finished day’s shoot. Sabarmati Ashram. Serene, pious, almost religious feel. Greatness of the Mahatma in every inch of soil,” he tweeted.
On Tuesday, the mega star will continue shooting at Lothal, Adalaj and Porbandar (Bapu’s birthplace).
