Default Dunga: Not the Brazil Coach Anymore

Brazilian Football Federation has sacked Dunga as the coach of Brazil national team following Brazilís shocking exit from the World Cup after losing to Netherlands in the quarter final. The 46-year-old former Brazilian player took over the job four years back after Brazil had been eliminated from the 2006 World Cup after losing to France.

Over the last four years, Dunga was fully criticized by some fans and some former players for instilling defensive style in the Brazil squad, in stead of encouraging Brazilís traditional Joga Bonito, a Portuguese phrase meaning to Ďplay beautifullyí.

However, Dunga always claimed himself to be a pragmatist. This current Brazil squad does not have exceptionally skilled and talented players required to play beautiful football. In 2002 World Cup, Brazil had players like Ronaldo, Ronaldinho, Rivaldo and Roberto Carlos who displayed beautiful football and clinched the title.

Now that, Dunga has been sacked after completing his four-year contract, Brazilian Football Federation would very soon appoint a new coach for Brazil team who would guide the Samba Kings in the 2011 Copa America. Luiz Felipe Scolari, who guided Brazil to win the 2002 World Cup, and Leonardo are among the possible candidates to take over the job.

Dunga, however, has some success with Brazil team during his tenure. He guided Brazil to win the Copa America 2007 and Confederations Cup 2009. Moreover, Brazil dominated during their World Cup qualifying campaign and finished at the top of the table in the South American region.

As a player, Dunga was the captain of Brazilís 1994 World Cup winning team and represented Brazil in 91 matches during his illustrious international career spanning 16 years.
