Manchester Untied is reportedly lining up a £15 million bid for Bolton Wanderers defender Gary Cahill. Manager Sir Alex Ferguson is believed to have been impressed by Cahillís performance for Bolton over the last two seasons.

Since joining Bolton in January 2008 from Aston Villa, Gary Cahill has become an automatic choice for Boltonís starting line up. The same year, he was awarded the Best Newcomer award by the club. The 24-year-old has represented Bolton in 75 Premier League matches and scored 8 goals. He also has the experience of playing for England at U20 and U21 age groups.

Manchester United is believed to have a very little transfer budget. So, they can not spend as heavily this summer as they were used to in the past. In fact, Ferguson is now planning to sell two underperformed players Dimitar Berbatov and Anderson to arrange a handsome transfer kitty so that he can spend further to strengthen the squad.

While Rio Ferdinand is getting older, and Nemanja Vidic has become a target of some other clubs including Real Madrid, Ferguson has every reason to be concerned about his back line which suffered a lot due to persistent injury problems almost throughout the last season.

So, it is understandable that Sir Alex Ferguson is now trying to bring in young but talented players like Gary Cahill who could serve for a long time and would not cost Manchester United a fortune.
