WSG warns BCCI of action over annulment of broadcast contractSports marketing agency World Sports Group has told the Indian cricket board that they will use whatever steps are essential to ensure that they do not lose their broadcasting contract of the IPL. BCCI had earlier cancelled the IPL media rights because they had alleged that the WSG negotiated an “improper” deal of Rs. 425 crores from MSM (Satellite) PTE LTD.
MSM is the parent firm of the official broadcaster of the IPL in India.
WSG chairman and CEO Seamus O’Brian wrote to the IPL and the BCCI saying that the improper payment charges were baseless and that the facilitation fee was above board and legal.
The story is such that last year, MSM had agreed to pay WSG a fee of Rs 425 crore. This was paid in lieu of WSG, who had the global rights for the IPL, give up on their India rights for the same. The BCCI realised this only this year and said that it was the BCCI who should have earned the money and not WSG....being a human...
