    Argentina and Germany are going to face each other on 3 July in the quarter final of the ongoing World Cup Football 2010 in a repeat of last tournamentís quarter final showdown which Germany won to reach the semi final. Germany and Argentina may not be two arch-rivals in world football, but there is a long history of their rivalry in World Cup football.


    The two teams faced each other 6 times in World Cup with Germany winning 3 times and Argentina once. Other 2 matches ended up in draw. Here are the details of the World Cup rivalry between Germany and Argentina:


    FIFA World Cup 1958 in Sweden

    This was the first time West Germany faced Argentina in World Cup with the Germans defeating the South Americans 3-1 in the first round of the group stage. Germans eventually qualified for the second round, but Argentina failed.


    World Cup Football 1966 in England

    This was another first round group stage match that ended in a goalless draw. Despite the stalemate, both sides qualified for the next round.


    1974 World Cup in West Germany

    It was a face-off between Argentina and East Germany in the second round of group stage with the match being ended up in a 1-1 stalemate. Both sides failed to reach the next round.


    1986 World Cup in Mexico

    Argentina clinched their second ever World Cup title after defeating West Germany 3-2 in the tournament final. Brown, Valdano and Burruchaga scored for Argentina, while Rummenigge and Voller scored for the Germans.


    FIFA World Cup 1990 in Italy

    This time West Germany took a sweet revenge as they defeated Argentina through Brehmeís controversial penalty goal in the tournament final.


    World Cup Football 2006

    Germany defeated Argentina 4-2 in penalty shootout as 1-1 tie was not broken after 120 minutes of play in the quarter final.
