    Default The Karate Kid took the top slot in the box office replacing The A-Team

    This week at the Hollywood box office, it was the war of remakes and The Karate Kid came out as the winner replacing The A-Team. The Karate Kid is the remake of 1984 movie by the same title. The A-Team is the remake of the 1980s TV series by the same name.

    The Karate Kid stars Jackie Chan and Jaden Smith. The movie earned $56 million on Sunday while The A-Team took the second spot collecting $26 million.

    After spending three weeks at the number one spot, Paramount Picturesí Shrek Forever After came to No.3 position with $15.8 million. Overall Shrek Forever After collected $210.1 million in the U.S. and became the fourth movie of the year to cross $200 million in ticket sales.

    The Karate Kid is directed by Harald Zwart. It is produced by Jerry Weintraub, Jada Pinkett Smith, James Lassiter, Ken Stovitz. The production cost was a modest $40 million.

    According to Rory Bruer, Head of Distribution, Sony Pictures Entertainment, told reporters that the executives did not expect the movie to do so well at the box office. They would have been happy if the movie did half of its present collection at the opening weekend but now expectations has begun to rise.

    The Karate Kid revolves around the story of an underdog and his road to success. The remake kept the same theme but it has been made to suit the taste of the present day audience.

    People aged below 25 accounted for 56% of the audience of The Karate Kid.

    The success of The Karate Kid is big boost for the box office. After release of Iron Man 2 in May, there was no serious collection. According, which tracks the box office, overall revenues stood $153 million, an 11% hike against the collection of the same weekend last year.
