Didier Drogba could be fit for Ivory Coast opener with PortugalIvory Coast boss Sven-Goran Eriksson has said star man Didier Drogba is in with a shout of playing in his nation's World Cup opener against Portugal on Tuesday.
Drogba, who broke his elbow last week in a warm-up fixture against Japan, had been expected to sit out the early exchanges this summer but these predictions could be wrong.
"If the game had been today or tomorrow he wouldn't have been able to play, but there are still a few days," Eriksson told Sky Sports News.
"He might play against Portugal."
Ivory Coast have been put in what is arguably the toughest group for this summerís tournament, after being drawn alongside Brazil, Portugal and North Korea and will know they will need to upset the odds to get through to the knockout stage.
But that has not put Eriksson off, as the Swede is still confident his side can go through, even if they have to play without their talismanic striker.
He added: "We will be well prepared and we are going to do everything to play well against the other teams."
Droba certainly faces a race against time to prove his fitness and help The Elephants spring a surprise.
