Match-fixing a possibility on Pakistan’s tour of Australia?
ICC’s Anti-Corruption and Security Unit (ACSU), headed by Paul Condon is probing the possibility of the existence of match-fixing on Pakistan’s tour of Australia was held in the early part of this year. They are trying to investigate whether the abysmal performances by Pakistan were due to “dysfunctional” team or “something more serious”.
There was earlier a leaked video from PCB’s own probe in which the former coach, Intikhab Alam and Aaquib Javed had alleged that match-fixing did actually occur but that they had no proof.
Condon said, “There has been an ongoing investigation since the time, because it is a series that worried us. We spent a lot of time talking to the players and the PCB but part of the challenge is to find where the solid fact is, because what you’ve got there is a lot of internecine strife within the team and within Pakistan politics, with rival camps making allegations.”
He also added that the ACSU was working with the PCB to try and find out the real cause of the issue. PCB, on their part have already conducted their own investigations and said that the Australian tour was a closed chapter and behind them.
