Less than a year back, England were the laughing stock of the T20 cricketing world, oscillating between terrible and competitive. Some might point skeptically point at the Lumb-Kieswetter additions and shrug off England’s current finalists/champions stature, but truth is, coming into this tournament, even without those two and with Wright-Bopara possibly opening, they looked the team most likely to surprise everyone. So like all wheels must turn, this one finally has.
SL today were faced with a slightly similar situation to the one vs India while batting though the big difference was the early and middle charge by Dilshan and Sanga. Also better bowling by England. In any case, SL were brilliant as a team in only 1 or max 2 games. And what the Barbados pitch ensured was that the best team in the competition was most likely to win the tournament.
Now England’s got either Australia or Pakistan left. Across the entire tournament, Aus have been the best. If it’s Pak, it would mean a tremendous win achieved tomorrow, with Pakistan on the upswing. So in either situation, England would play the finals underdogs. Probably the best situation for them to be in to bring out their best cricket.
