Jack Wilshere has finally resumed full training with the Arsenal first-team squad for the first time in over a year.

Wilshere, 20, picked up an initial ankle injury on England duty in June 2011, before the same problem forced him to hobble off in the Emirates Cup that July, in his last appearance for Arsenal.

Various setbacks followed, including an operation on his knee, keeping him sidelined for the whole of last season.

The England midfielder, who has been working with the ball for the past fortnight and has also undergone conditioning and intensive fitness work, is likely to return to match action in October.

Manager Arsene Wenger was delighted to have the youngster back in training after being without him for such an extended period.

"We are so pleased that Jack is back in full training," Wenger said. "It's been 14 months and that's a long time for someone at his age. It's an eternity, but it's great news.

"We have to give him a few training sessions to see how he copes and responds to it. That's the delicate, sensitive stage - to choose when to bring him in and out. We'll have to handle that day-by-day."

In further good news for the Gunners, they also welcomed back Emmanuel Frimpong to full training.

Frimpong, 20, injured his cruciate ligament in February while on loan at Wolves and Wenger again was happy to be welcoming back another midfielder to the fold.

"We also have Emmanuel Frimpong who has returned to full training this week, which is great news as well," he said. "Emmanuel has also been out a long time, but is progressing well."
