Arsenal forward Theo Walcott wants his team to focus on the English Premier League with their European dream all but over.

Arsene Wenger's men suffered a 3-1 loss to Bayern Munich in the Champions League round-of-16 first leg at Emirates Stadium on Tuesday.

Walcott said Arsenal needed to turn their attentions to the Premier League, in which they sit fifth and needing to improve on if they are to secure Champions League qualification for next season.

"Don't get me wrong. We have to be realistic and say it's going to be very difficult (to progress)," he said of their Champions League hopes this season.

"They (Bayern) are very strong at home. We need to score three goals. We can do that if we work hard and show what we did in the second half anyway.

"We have to be realistic. It's going to be very difficult but like I say I hope the guys don't dwell on that too much, this result today. I think we need to get back to where we should be in the league.

"We have had some very positive results in the Premier League so we need to start believing again and start climbing up the table."

Bayern forward Franck Ribery was delighted with the result and called on his team-mates to carry their good form deeper into the competition.

"We are very satisfied, we scored three goals at Arsenal," Ribery said.

"That is super for us, we need to go on like this. This won't be easy, it's the Champions League, but we are Bayern, we need to go on like this."

Goalscorer Thomas Mueller echoed the thoughts of his colleague, highlighting the strength of Bayern's first-half showing.

"First half was great for us, we played very well," Mueller said.

"We scored twice. The first goal of Arsenal was weird, but it can happen, this is football. Then confidence came back for them, plus their supporters, but the three goals are very important for us."
