Default Ronaldo: Madrid still the biggest

Real Madrid star Cristiano Ronaldo insists his club and not Barcelona are the biggest in the world.

Ronaldo and his team-mates have had to endure difficult times in recent years as their bitter rivals Barca continue to dominate Spanish and European football. However, the Portuguese captain - who joined Madrid from Manchester United back in 2009 - believes people are jealous of the Bernabeu outfit which he rates as the top club in football.

"Real Madrid are the best club in the world and [there is] a lot of envy," he told UEFA in an interview.

"I think this will be a great year for us."

"Whatever happened last year, we know what it was. We were unjustly eliminated [from the UEFA Champions League], but we must learn to live with it."

Ronaldo was referring to Madrid's ill-tempered semi-final defeat to the Catalan side where the Portuguese felt his team were on the wrong end of several refereeing decisions.

Ronaldo is currently on international duty with Portugal and played an integral part in keeping them top of Group H in Euro 2012 qualifying. Ronaldo, who opened the new La Liga season with a hat-trick against Real Zaragoza last weekend, scored twice and had one assist as Portugal ran out 4-0 winners over Cyprus on Friday night.
