    Default IPL Pune Name And Logo Event

    Pune IPL team named today as Sahara Pune Warriors at a gala function held in Pune today. Pune IPL team lgo was also unveiled in the function. The grand event was held at the S.P. College ground in Pune.

    Sahara had bagged Pune and Kochi in the last month's auction for the two new IPL teams. And now, it has given a name to IPL Pune Franchise. The Pune IPL team will be called the Sahara Pune Warriors and will feature in the next edition of IPL in 2011.

    On the occasion Subrata Roy, Chairman Sahara Group said, "It is a moment of great pleasure for us to present the identity of the Pune IPL team for the people of the city and cricket enthusiasts across the world."

    In the meeting, Subrata Roy also introduced the
    logo of the Sahara Pune Warrior’s Team. The Logo features the potrait of Shivaji Maharaj. The logo was decided keeping the Marathi`s in mind and also it is a well known fact that Pune is the land of Maratha warriors.The logo comes along with the tri colours of Indian Flag.

    According to the Chairman Sahara Group, the addition of the Sahara Pune Warriors will help in promoting young talents in the city. It also has the plans of setting up an International Sports Academy at its Amby Valley project. Amby Valley City is situated at around 80 kms from Pune. It is spread over 10,000 acres. It was about to be presented to BCCI had India won the 2003 Cricket World Cup.

    Mr. Roy also announced regarding the monthly allowances that will be given to the players. He announced that the players from Pune who play at the State-level will be given a monthly allowance of Rs. 5,000. This amount is increased to Rs. 10,000 for National Players and Rs. 20,000 for International players. Meanwhile, the home matches of the Pune IPL team will be played in a newly constructed stadium, which is around 25 kms from Pune.

    When asked about any links of Sahara Pune Warriors with Bollywood arena, Roy stated that, “Pune is a magnificent and glamorous city and it doesn't need a dash of external glamour.”

    While choosing the city, three choices were given by Sahara that included - Ahmedabad, Nagpur and Pune. Ultimately Pune was chosen and Sahara Group paid over 370$ Million for it.
