    Default Dravid backs embattled Dhoni

Veteran batsman Rahul Dravid has backed MS Dhoni to retain India's captaincy ahead of their four-Test series against England.

Dhoni is under pressure after leading his team to seven consecutive Test defeats in England and Australia last year.

However Dravid believes 31-year-old Dhoni is still the right man to lead India and suggested his heavy workload should be reduced.

"Dhoni has every right to survive it, because he's Dhoni," Dravid said.

Dravid believes Dhoni should consider retiring from either one-day or Twenty20 cricket to ease the burden on his ageing body.

"From his own personal point of view, you want to see the best of Dhoni as a player. He has a lot to contribute as a batsman and wicketkeeper and we want to see the best of that," he said.

"I don't think we want to lose that and if that means at some stage, maybe the time's not right now but in the near future, we have to relieve him of the responsibility from one format to get the best out of him as a player then I think the selectors have to take that call."

The first Test starts in Ahmedabad on Monday.
