Former Australian cricketer, Dav Whatmore, has taken the challenge to guide the Pakistan national cricket team as he has been appointed as the head coach for two years by the Pakistan Cricket Board. On the other hand, English professional cricket coach, Julian Fountain, has been appointed as the fielding coach.

They are supposed to take the charge of the team as soon as possible and prepare the team for the Asia Cup tournament which is scheduled to take place later this month.

PCB chairman, Zaka Ashraf, told reporters, “We have reached an agreement with Whatmore who will be the new coach of the Pakistan team for the next two years”.

According to him, a foreign coach can best use the talent available in Pakistan cricket. However, both Whatmore and Fountain is looking forward to the challenge and are expecting to give their best results.

Dav Whatmore has earned huge reputation as a coach. Under his coaching, Sri Lanka won the 1996 World Cup. He also enjoyed successful coaching spell with Bangladesh. He led Bangladesh to their first test match and then series win in 2005.

Before Dav Whatmore and Julian Fountain, Pakistan had three foreign coaches- Richard Pybus, Bob Woolmer and Australian Geoff Lawson.

Before appointing them, chief selector, Mohsin Khan, played the role of interim coach of Pakistan cricket team after the resignation of Waqar Younis in September for personal and health reasons.
