Default [Cricket] Wellington rain keeps England at bay

Only six overs were bowled on day four of the second Test between New Zealand and England, as the remnants of Cyclone Sandra struck.

The hosts in Wellington would likely have welcomed Sunday's rain, after England enforced the follow-on a day earlier.

And the Black Caps' bid for survival was handed a major boost by the elements at Basin Reserve, as they negotiated 36 deliveries in the final session for the addition of nine runs and the loss of no wickets.

The Kiwis head into the final day at 162-2 in their second innings, still trailing by 49 runs, with Kane Williamson (55) and Ross Taylor (41) the unbeaten batsmen.

But if weather reports are to be believed, England will not have much chance of securing a result on Monday, with more persistent rain predicted for day five.

A draw would see the series head to the third and final Test in Auckland with the two teams level on 0-0, and everything to play for.
