Eighteen runs from four overs by Chris Gayle ensured Bangladesh fell short in their chase of 198, handing the West Indies a 18-run win in their one-off Twenty20 international in Dhaka on Monday.

Tamim Iqbal was unbeaten on 88 and Mahmudullah on 64 as the hosts looked on course for the win, but the wily West Indian spinners, and especially Gayle, curbed their enthusiasm with tight bowling, and they finished meekly on 179 for one.

Earlier, the West Indies posted 197 for four after winning the toss.

Marlon Samuels propelled the score in the final over with 29 runs taken off Rubel Hossain.

Together with Lendl Simmons (18 not out), they took 75 runs off the final five overs, and Samuels finished with 85 off only 43 balls, having hit three fours and nine sixes.

The tourists won the preceding two-test series 2-0 but lost the five-match one-day series 3-2.
