    Story: Mod is primarily a love story between - Andy (Rannvijay Singh) and Annaya (Ayesha Takia Azmi) – two people, who are poles-apart. Fun-loving girl Annaya runs a watch repair shop and is happy with the way her life is moving along with her father Ashok (Raghuveer Yadav) and aunt Gayatri (Tanvi Azmi), until a stranger, Andy enters her life. Andy lands up at her shop to get his watch fixed. This soon becomes a regular affair as that’s the only way he can meet her again. These meetings soon lead to love, when after breaks the ice by introducing himself to her as her former class-mate. Everything looks perfect until Annaya discovers through her school security guy that Andy had met with an accident ten years ago and passed away. What happens next is an interesting tale which is worth a watch.

    Story Treatment: Mod rests on a very engaging plot, which is much beyond romance though it touts to be a romantic film. The well-knit story, however, loses essence with its extremely slow-paced screenplay. The initial 40 minutes wear out one’s patience, when Nagesh Kukunoor introduces each character. Post interval, as the story unfolds with hard to predict twists, things fall in place for Mod. The character of Andy (who actually turns out be Abhay) is portrayed in a manner worth an appreciation. The climax could've been more powerful in terms of writing, as it doesn’t complement the flow with which the narrator unravels the plot.

    Star Cast: Rannvijay Singh is superb at switching lanes from a timid Andy to a flamboyant Abhay. It is a treat to watch him enact his role with such confidence. Ayesha looks graceful and acts well, living up to the expectations of the character. Raghuveer Yadav as a Kishore Kumar fan is completely natural. Tanvi Azmi is brilliant as an agony aunt. Anant Mahadevan and Nikhil Ratnaparkhi play their parts well.

    Direction: Always perceived to be a serious filmmaker, Nagesh Kukunoor breaks the jinx of falling flat as far as the genre of romance is concerned. Mod compels one to leave the bad memories of his first ever attempt in the genre ‘Bombay to Bangkok’ and witness something which has both its heart and soul in place. Nagesh leaves one at the edge of the seat as soon as Andy moves in the plot, despite the slow screenplay which is expected of Nagesh Kukunoor films, as he is never in a hurry to surprise his viewers.

    Music/ Cinematography/ Dialogues/Editing: Music is the drawback and in fact it adds to the agony of a dull screenplay in the background. Cinematography is ‘A’ class, capturing the locales of the small town Ganga in which the film is set. Dialogues complement the intense situations and leave a big impact at some places. Editing, if crisp, could have helped the dragged screenplay.

    3 Ups and 3 Downs: Interesting storyline, power-packed performances, dialogues and an intelligent direction are the strengths. Music, screenplay and editing take a toll on the film.

    On the whole, Mod is a one-time watch which won’t disappoint you due to its fresh concept.
