The Danish brewing giant Carlsberg has toppled SABMiller to become the second largest beer maker in the city and third largest nationally, making its way into India’s urban markets.

United Breweries(UB) and SABMiller have been on top in the domestic beer market for the past one decade.

Danish brewer Carlsberg sells the strong and lager variants of Tuborg and Carlsberg beers. It consolidated 16-17 per cent market share to go ahead from SABMiller in Delhi for six months now.

Carlsberg secured the second spot in July, 2011 and has maintained the lead except in November, industry sources revealed.

SABMiller’s market share average is estimated at 14-15 per cent in the same time frame. The United Breweries(UB), owned by Vijay Mallya and Heineken, remains the industry leader with national market share crossing 55 per cent.
